I have always liked it and have found lots of good information in it that applies to me. I live off the grid with a very simple system and still find their articles useful. Just the gardening articles alone are worthwhile for me. My husband and I, are always going to the back issues to find something we need. I also love the nature articles as I like to study the wild life around us. I guess it just depends on what you are trying to do.

I hear folks gripe about TMEN but I've always liked it.

When they publish an article about a celebrity promoting green living, that's fine with me. Folks pay attention to celebrities because they recognize them. I don't see how it's bad for TMEN to use that to get the word out.

I have noticed the ads follow the articles but to me that's just smart ad placement.

I enjoyed their online forum a lot but it's so painful after the upgrade I haven't been there in months. I agree, it's nice seeing some familiar faces here.

Oh, one more thing - I LOVE Barbara Pleasant's articles about gardening. She always has something in her articles that I didn't know and that I can put to good use in my own garden.

For me, the strangest cover was the one that said, in big letters, "Build your home for $50,000." I mean, if __I__ had that much money, I would have a home of some sort built, my car would be paid off, and I would be trying to figure how the best way to invest some of the rest of the money......I mean SHEESH!!!!!!!!!

Kinda' along the same lines: The original "This Old House" series on PBS was created to assist/teach homeowners to do their own renovations, "on the cheap". You got the free expertise of the hosts (Bob and Norm only back then I think), but most of the rest of it was hands on homeowner sweat and toil. Now almost all of the projects are $500K or more renovations where everything is contracted out...and the homeowners' only toil is to drive by and pick out the cabinets! I heard the program's transition started when they dropped a house that had been lifted up to make way for a new foundation...but I've never confirmed if that actually happened. I guess if you have a house nearly fall on you, it would cause you to reconsider your strategy for programming!

we have been getting ME for a year and a half and there have been several good articles recently i can not speak to the most recent one as my wife hijacked it and i have not seen it yet.

like anything you have to wade thru the advertisments but that is what keeps the extentions price low.

I've also noticed that lately it seems to be transitioning back more to the way it used to be. That makes me very happy.

I just sent that email passing my praise along. I figure, I complain when I don't like something (i.e. their forums lately, lol) so maybe they will listen more if they here about the good stuff too. Worth a shot anyway .

As for the ads, I am with turtlehead. It would make no sense to place an ad for 4-wheelers after an article on chickens, or something. DH and I own a small business and if I were to pay for an ad in a magazine, of course I would want it placed as closely as possible to any relevant article. The entire purpose of an ad is to sell something, so there should be no surprise that they will try to place it where those who are mostly likely to buy the item would look. If it weren't for the ads, like Greencountypete said, the subscriptions would cost much more. Anyway, just my $0.02.
