Why does it have to be one or the other? Can't a person care about both?

I care about both. But I lean more towards the human side in most matters.

From reading the responses here, it's not too far a stretch to see where the people on that message board might believe a certain segment of homesteaders could be a bit backwards....

BTW, liberal and rural aren't mutually exclusive.

Maybe I should find my old photographs from when I was a teenager and worked with my dad in the huge commerical meat packing plants. I worked on the slaughter house kill floor part of the time, or loading trucks with boxes and front or hind quarters of beef. Also - I helped do custom slaughter and processing of farm animals such as sheep, goats, hogs, beef, and other animals, at smaller custom slaughter plants to help pay for my university education in fisheries. Where do they think contents of the white packaged trays come from, the Soylent Green Corporation????

If it is a site about loving our warm and fuzzy pets, can I post photographs of my cat torturing and eating several species of rodents and birds?? That is while Sid is doing her HS duties of controling the vermin here on the hilltop. The birds get after the fruit on the trees before I can harvest most of it, so she is doing natural organic pest control..

Its hard to do, but it should be - and we appreciate it more. Many are vegetarian because they don't want to support the hellish conditions that mass production of animal products entail. I've had vegetarians tell me that they would eat meat if they could do it the way we do.

This is exactly why we were vegetarians until we got our homestead.

you could tell the old joke of Whats the difference between a Northern Zoo and a Southern Zoo?
The Northern Zoo has a sign with a picture of the animal and tells about where the animal comes from.
The Southern Zoo has a sign with a picture of the animal and a recipe on how to cook it.

LOL

this all started over someoneon the board asking about pictures of our goats. It was not an attempt to annoy or start anything, just answering a request. Plus my wife was a very regular poster there in the short time she was there. The main site is very informative, but the message board seems a skew.

Well, my FH and I used to run a locker plant, and he had to slaughter animals for customers. move on 50 years--and now, I wont eat anyone I know!! Sounds silly, perhaps, but it seems animals here take on a personality, so we just dont raise anything we expect to eat. True, we buy it--but I guess thats one of the perks of being old--we can indulge our idiosyncrasy!

yea... move on. What if you are right? What if they let her back in? Nobody will every "talk" to her again anyway. There are some things that just aren't worth winning even if you can. She obviously has a strong justice orientation. I am sure she can put that to better use than fighting to be on a board that doesn't want her. She can use that justice thing in her for the poor, the orphan, the widow... As for a place to post, she will be much happier here with folks who won't judge her or "tolerate" her, but who understand her. Time to let this one go.

Welcome, btw...

I'm me! YAY!

Anyway, I'm not looking to post on the board again. I don't mind debates. I do mind hypocrisy and being told what I am and am not allowed to say.

I have two little girls climbing on me, so I must go.
