Here is the site you should read first. Very good introduction to the ins & outs of small time hay making.

http://www.sheepscreek.com/rural/haying.html

Eastern damp/ dew grass hay making vs western dry/ alfalfa making is totally, totally, different processes; would help to know a general location & type of hay to help you out.

'Here' it is typical for custom hay makers to get 1/2 the crop, the land owner gets 1/2 as well. Land owner does most of the cost of fert/seed/lime issues.

I'd be pretty ticked too if the agreement changed......

Do you need to crimp or ted in your location, or do you need to bale at night to keep the leaves on, etc.? Grass or alfalfa or mix? It takes different implements for these different conditions.

I'm wondering if somehow one of you didn't understand the other in terms of what the percentages were before hand....I do baling for some folks around where I live, its either I bale it and take it all, or I bale it and they get 1/3. To much money in equipment, time & fuel invested to make their cut worth more than 1/3. This is round bales.
