How it went

I had a nice trip. My favorites include Lehmans and that country store in Mesopotamia. And yes the root beer is the best I have ever had. We did a lot of rural driving and looked at many Amish homesteads large and small. I learned many things and enjoyed the trip. I had great cheese (several spots), great food (Yoders is hard to beat) and generally kicked back. This is not about homesteading but the Air Force Museum in Dayton is a do not miss trip for history buffs. I have been to museums all over the world including the
RAF museum in Britain and this one beats them all. My biggest disappointment was seeing how many Amish are working low paying jobs. I found out only about 1/3 are living off the farm. Like most things in life there are advantages and disadvantages. I still think there is much to be said for their simple lifestyle.

Thanks for the many great ideas!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! You really covered some territory! Did you have the fried chicken at Yoder's? I could eat that everyday. I'm glad you got to try End of the Commons root beer too. The graham flour pretzels there are also pretty wonderful. For me, travel is all about the people and the food! My husband's boy scout troup used to take yearly trips to the air force museum, and he always says there was a rumor about a "secret hanger" like area 54 there! My favorite plane there is the old Air Force One (Truman's I think?).
