Any ideas of places I should see?
There are various craftsmen that I could direct you or whom ever to if you want.
Not just a resale type store.

Marilyn -- I don't think they're open on Sundays. You might want to check their schedule on their website.

One more to add to your list!

Behalt, it is a "museum" and tells all about the Amish and Mennonite communties. It's over toward Berlin (which is nothing but a big tourist trap!), but I have heard that Behalt is a good stop. And if you are going to Heini's Cheese House then your almost next door!

If you are going to be near Columbus, how about Serpent Mound

Largest serpent effigy (I think) in the United States.

Barnesville is closer to a two hour drive from Columbus...we also have Longhorns here. I don't know if they are still giving the tours or not at this point.
James, which Antique store are you referring to? Antiques on the Main? There was a fire in that building about a year ago. They moved somewhere and I don't know if they have moved back into the building yet or not. Shame I live here adn don't know...lol

How about a trip to see one of the largest water powered grist mills still in existence? The Clifton Mill is about an hour away from Columbus.

While you are here, visit the antique malls in Clifton, The Clifton Gorge, John Bryan State Park and Yellow Springs for shopping!

You will love Lehman's in Kidron. I bought my wood stove there (Jotul...Oslo). That place is like a small museum in itself. Lots of good food in the area...slow down and be on the lookout for horses and buggies. They are everywhere. Someone mentioned the Columbus Zoo. Every autumn they have a "Boo at the Zoo" and families dress up in costumes and tour the zoo. Circle Pumpkin show (23 South) maybe 30-35 minute drive from Columbus is fun. It was featured in Mark DeCarlo's Taste of America. (I would avoid Ohio State University Campus on any home game day...traffic is not fun). Good luck.

Just the campus? All the surrounding areas within 10 miles should be avoided too, for 2 hours after the game is over. During the game the traffic is light and stores are empty.

Which week are you coming, Country Doc? There are so many great festivals going on in the next couple of weeks. Canal Fulton has the Yankee Peddler festival next weekend, which was voted the best festival of it's kind in the country. Ramseyer Farms has an amazing giant corn maze shaped like the state of Ohio, plus lots of other fun activities. Ashtabula County has it's Covered Bridge Festival the weekend of Oct. 13 and 14 where you can visit 16 beautiful covered bridges. The End of the Commons General Store in Mesopotamia, Trumbull County is probably my favorite store on Earth! It is Ohio's oldest continuously operated general store, and you won't find a more authentic one. They even have their own, homemade rootbeer which is to DIE for. Mesopotamia's population is 60% Amish, and next weekend, they have their fall Heritage Days where Amish and Yankee (as they call us here, rather than English) craftsmen demonstrate period skills. The following weekend, Geauga County has the Apple Butter Festival at the Century Village in Burton. It's a gorgeous town, and the smell of all those apples cooking is delightful. For everyday visits in a completely untouristy environment, visit Nauvoo Road in Middlefield, Geauga County. Think of it as an "Amish strip mall". Every house is a different cottage industry, from buggy making to blacksmithing to rug weaving to bulk foods. The auction house is also there, and a wonderful cheese factory stands at the end. Can you tell I love our great state? Enjoy your visit! There is so much to see and do here!

I sure miss OH. I was born in Streetsboro and have family all over the Akron/ Canton area. I was just saying the other day that I might as well move back to OH as all my animals seem to be coming from that state. My 1st flock came from Mt Healthy, OH, my goats and pig are from Rogers, OH, my pyr is from OH (thanks the queensblessing) and my newest chickens I picked up on Sunday are also from OH(thanks lunagardens). I would sure have a lot less driving to do!
