I fail to understand how they think that shooting out a beam can discriminate between people / vehicles and then ignore livestock.

Well I think it has to do with the height of the beam. Put it at 4-5 feet high across the road in front of the gate and you get vehicles and people (unless they are crawling) and you miss most dogs and deer. My sheep and goats and dogs would go under the beam, my cow would not. If she is out and breaks the beam I want to know that.

I don't want it so much for security as for just knowing someone is at the gate. I hate for visitors to catch me in my skivvy shorts or worse. One thing nice about being 150 yds from the road is that I see minimal need for window coverings. When someone comes to the door unannouced it gets frustrating. The dog I just had put down 2 weeks ago was my "someone is really coming now" warning. My anatolians sound off, but they sound off about deer, rabbits coyotes, stray dogs, people, UPS, etc etc. ZAK used to sound off about PEOPLE.

I have need for sensors at 350, 600, 900, and 1100 feet. The reviews don't tell that it is reliable at those distances.
