I looked around for cheap tiles and found an ad for Lowes or Home Depot, they had 16" sq. tiles for $0.49. But the sale ended that day and the store is 150 miles away. I didn't know you could get tiles that cheap, now that is the direction we are leaning. I thought linoleum was tougher stuff, but all I ever put it on was a new kitchen once.

There's always a sale going on somewhere. If you're not in a hurry, mark the day you saw the sale on the calendar. Throw a carpet on the floor and wait till that time next year (or a few days prior). Very often, the sale is annual inventory clearance and shows up nearly the same time each year.

The big box stores are run on precise computer algorythms that control how much profit they make at various times of the year, so sales on materials are usually cyclic.

Ed, I've called in orders for tile, bought em, and they'd hold em for me, in the past... if it wasn't what I wanted, I could 'return' em. The .49c price may have been per square foot.....that fact is sometimes in the fine print.

good luck on your floor!

How about cork tiles with a quality sealer on top?
