There are some amazing homes posted here. I can see a lot of very hard work has gone into making these places very special.

That would be great...I love your wrap around porch. I hope you get to move in soon..We built on weekends too and I hated to leave on Sunday and I couldn't wait to move in...I still get excited to go home even after we have lived there for a year. I am in NWLa but so close to East Texas I could touch it...lol.

We're just about 5 miles from Three States -- the corner where Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana meet (where the beer stores are! ). Louisiana is my home state and I must say it's really nice to be able to put my feet in homestate soil on a regular basis!

EasyDay,
Love your place! I've always loved North Central and North Western Arkansas. BEAUTIFUL country. Wish we had some of those rocks pictured in Goose Neck Creek. Our place has NO rocks and we LOVE rocks! Used to go rock hunting quite a bit and picked up quite a few down in the hill country of Texas.
Noticed you have a shop and your DH has a shop. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of work do y'all do in those shops? Are y'all artists? I love the idea of having my own studio/shop. Will have to fit that into our plans.
Peace and Smiles,
doohap

Well, ours is city-living (literally) compared with all of these places with woodlands, pastures, creeks, rivers and ponds.
Here is a pic of the front of our place. It is an ongoing (and going and going and...) renovation project. And yep, I broke the glass out of the front door. This shot is from a couple of years ago, the door has since been replaced.
From before the little picket fence was all the way up. And right after we put the new roof on (several years ago now....). Found all sorts of random ex-window sites when we pulled the rough-sawn off the sides of the building. We are going to repair those holes and clean up the cedar siding....I really like how it looks on the (small) section we have done already.
Here is one of the center part of my garden, when I had morning glories planted on the trellis. I am trying to get some clematis going on it this year. That thing in the middle is supposed to be a pump/plow disc birdbath....it could use some water though huh? LOL.
That's it for another year! The end of last year's growing seasong....You can see just about the entire garden space in this picture....not very big at all. That is the little dog yard behind my garden (yep, we take her for lots of walks...not much room to run there!).
And, the deck that DH is building. Still needs railings, and a staircase up to it would be nice...the ladder is a bit awkward, lol. Eventually we are going to finish off the attic, and our bedroom will open onto the deck. Please excuse the ridiculously ugly mtn of black trashbags. We scored this massive amount of free blown insulation. Unfortunately, we now have to come up w/ the time for the equally massive project of getting it into the walls....*sigh* :baby04:. I am not fond of the pile, lol.
Ideally we'd like some more property someday. But we have to finish w/ this restoration project before it is even slightly "sell-able". So first things first I guess.....

Ack! You can't see them? You know, I have the hardest time posting images, though it is strange because these are showing up for me (at the moment anyway). I have them on Kodak's ofoto site....I right clicked on them, went to properties and copy/pasted the link into the image thing on here. Does that sound like the right process?

I love the pictures of everyone's homesteads.
This is where we started:
This is where we were a couple of months ago:
this is from last month:
We've got shingles on the roof now, but we've still got a long way to go.

Yep, we're in Stone County... and it is named appropriately! DH spent 2 yrs picking up rocks from the hay fields and pastures. Gave many to a friend who builds with rock. We used the flat creek rocks to do the front of the house, and DH built me a rock table. Wanna buy some of our rock?

DH said, yeah, BS artist!
No, really... DH's shop is for tools, fixing things, and drinking beer with the boys.
We are still working on the inside of mine, but it will be my stained glass shop. My supplies/tools have been in boxes for 2 yrs and can't WAIT to get back into a studio! It's a "girlie" room.
Yes, you MUST have your own studio/shop. Every woman needs one! For whatever you want it to be for!

I'm not sure how it works from the Kodak site, but all I'm seeing on my computer is a little square with a question mark in it. Clicking on that does nothing. Sorry.

I love that barn and it breaks my heart that it will be torn down. When Daddy was sick with cancer he wouldn't let anyone do repairs on it...kept saying he would do them when he was better. He never got better and died two years ago of colon cancer. Now the floor joists in the barn loft have rotted and it's unsafe.
I plan to salvage as much of the barn as I can and we will use it to finish our TV room above the garage. (Although I still haven't given up hopes of saving it.)

Yes, save the wood -- as much as you can! They don't grow wood like than anymore. That's old growth, not like today's junk wood.
My barn was built by Mennonites who cleared this land back 70 years ago. The entire area used to be a huge forest. Makes me kind of sad, to tell the truth. Anyway, land here sold for $1 an acre in the '20s and '30s. The area is known as Pea Ridge, because all they could grow was peas, and guano fertilizer was expensive. Of course, after commercial fertilizer, the forest got cleared off pretty quickly! Land in this area now is $5,000-6,000/acre, and those original owners would not believe that price if they came back!
There are still old log cabins falling in and old shotgun shacks around from those first farmers. My next door neighbor was born and lived in one of them just down the road, and he's just 44. He said if you dropped your chicken leg at supper, it would fall through the floor and the dog under the house would get it.

Emulkhai1 - I couldn't see any of your pictures either, sorry!
You all should be so proud of yourselves, these are all gorgeous places. No matter how small or large, plain or fancy, they look wonderful to me. Huge case of 'steader envy here, lol!
