We had a blind QH mare that was a perfect kid horse on the ground. You could do anything with her and she never spooked or anything. We all loved her dearly. We tried to ride her and we were able to at first but she just got so bad about bucking and after I broke my back after falling off her we found her a good home. It was very difficult and I kept thinking that we could get her to stop bucking but after I got hurt it wasnt' worth it any more. gina

I had two (key word had) Barred Rooster. One day I stepped off the porch and one of them hit my leg. It wasn't the first time, but it was his last time..... I warned him.
I went and got the 22, but it jammed, so I got the shotgun. He wasn't anymore, and neither was the water hose. DH fixed the waterhose.
The other kept coming after me. Not only that he would stalk me.. I kid you not! Told DH if he didn't something about him, he was going to get the same as the first one.

A suggestion on 'taming' wild domestic animals. Pen them so that you can control their water supply. I have found that it works a lot better and faster than doing the same with their feed source. Even the most shy or frightened animal will reach the point they will come to you to get a drink. After a while, could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks, they will start to trust you.

Here is my "problem child"
This dog was nearly euthanized 2 times. I got him when a rescue was closing. He had been in the shelter for a year and NOBODY had ever wanted to adopt him! I was only going to have him for a weekend. 1 year later.... He has a lot of problems - he snaps toys out of my hands and bites me (accidentally, but it hurts!), he barks, is unsocialized, reactive, and a bit dod-vs-dog aggressive. He bit my cat, put 2 puppies in the vet - 1 for surgery. He has eaten 2 quilts, my new wool coat, pillows, blankets, socks, 4 bars of soap.... the list goes on and on and on and on.
But he loves to play frisbee and he clears a 58" hurdle... so we keep him.

Rafter Roosting Roosters. Started with one. Had chicks. Cute. Chicks all turned out to be more roosters. Managed to thin them, but by next year, more chicks. Awww, so cute. But all roosters. This year--more roosters. They roost in the rafters. They squawk and run if I get near them. And...
Ducks. Muscovies are the most prolific animals on earth. Time to send another couple dozen to freezer camp. At least they are sweet and docile, and just let me pick them up and set them down in a box.

I just got rid of my problem child, she was a very pretty black lab/boxer, smart as could be and pretty but would run every chance, started fights with the other dogs and just was a complete brat, she thought she owned the house not us, the last straw though was my dh bought me a chaise lounge sofa as a surprise for me, i had been fawning over this one chair for about 2 yrs finally my dh bought it and a month later when we left the house that dog literally ate the middle of the seat, my DD came into the house and ran back out saying mom you dont want to go in there. I did, needless to say that dog found herself a new home real quick.

I have a Shetland ewe who gets pinkeye from time to time. No other sheep in the flock ever does, just her. She's opinionated with the dog and turns to fight instead of letting herself get herded into the pen. Her fleece isn't the very best, but she is my first and oldest ewe and will always come up to hang out with me when I go out back with the sheep. I really need to downsize this fall, and I suppose I should consider culling her, but....

ajax, maybe she has herpes instead of pinkeye?
My 21 year old cat is a demanding mess making pain in the *ss and my best buddy. So I put up with it knowing I'll miss him when he's gone.

In addition to the buck with a bad attitude, I have a little Pomeranian house dog. She's so old that she is senile and sometimes forgets that she's housebroken. I have to take her out every hour and keep her out until she goes. But she is so lovable that I could never bring myself to get rid of her.
I can't get rid of the buck, he's from excellent stock and I'd probably never find another one as good. I will keep one of his son's to replace him some day.

Vanne, that picture is fantastic and deserves to be published in a dog mag or something! Is his name 'Devil Dog'?

There was a poem I read, long ago, about two brothers who shared a cow. One wanted to eat it and the other didn't. The poem went something like 'I killed my half, and his half died'.

"Kamikaze Kado" for his complete disregard for life and limb. Or "Kado Potato" for his bullish and brainless qualities.

Is he spayed or neutered? Feed him lots of vanilla creme cookies as treats when he does what you say. Eventually he will get fat, and lazy and not want to do much of anything.

You do know that attitude/temperment is inherited?? Which is why I will not keep a mean breeding animal. They have a real hard time being unruly when they are in the freezer.

We have a Boer goat who is so ugly, and really mean to other goats, except she's a terrific mother and huge milker or she'll pick out an underdog goat to "mother" and protect it. But she's my first and I just love her. I know they say if you keep an animal cause you love it you are not a producer who makes money but a hobby farmer who spends it, but hey, she reminds me of someone else I know........

here are mine....
I like to tell people that they (the kids) were adopted
.
.
.
But then they brought them back!!!!
not really...they are good kids (when they are asleep)
My problem dog was rehomed last October....he was a Great Pyr/Anatolian Shep cross who was "pound bound" when I saved him....he fought with our other dogs, usually over who had the "herding rights" over our family....we couldnt even enjoy our yard because each shepherd was trying to protect us from the other.....
I had posted on the barter board for something COMPLETELY unrelated and while double checking on my post, I saw a lady needing a dog to protect her chickens....
so we each drove several hours to meet....when we got there and I let the dang dog out, he jumped and ran out before I had a good handle on the leash....I chased him for several minutes, calling and whistling for him....she said "come're" and he went right to him...we had to physically lift him into our car....she opened her car door and he jumped right in...
he ended up perfect for her family!!!!! she even got another pup and Adahe taught the pup how to herd and protect....Adahe had NEVER been around livestock before she got him!!!!
it was perfect for both families....I email her from time to time to find out how he is doing.....I was soooooooo worried that she wouldnt want him and I would have to take hi back for some reason....she says he has his home for LIFE with them!
