http://www.ams.usda.gov/NOP/NOP/standards/ListReg.html

It's on this page listed under § 205.601 Synthetic substances allowed for use in organic crop production.

Actually, I guess we were both right - its use is allowed, but it is a manufactured substance...

I've used a bottle of plain ol' white vinegar poured down inot the ant hill entrance on a hot day.

Next morning, the area around the mound will be littered with hundreds of dead ants.

Just sweep 'em up!

Are they causing problems for your farm/area? If not, then why get rid of them? Ants are the little cleaning machines of the ground. I say leave them be if they aren't a problem.

Well, first I'm amazed it's on the list at all. Interesting. You win.

But, I gotta point out that it does say "no direct contact with organic food or crops."

You can see a pic of an ant sucking the sugar from an aphid's butt at http://www.richsoil.com/antsandaphids

Ardie,

Here's a link HollyM sent me about organic fire ant control. I think it will work with other ants too. If they're not fire ants and or otherwise not nuisance, you may want to just knock the hill over and encourage them to move further away. If they're fire ants, kill them quickly and completely. Your neighbors will much appreciate it.
