okay

Well, we did have the pigs in where our garden is and that ground got so hard and packed down with them in there that we couldn't hardly till it to plant. It was really horrible. Not sure hubby would go for doing that again, but I'll suggest it to him.

Part of the 'trick' to that is to not leave them in any area for more than a few days and feed them so they cover the area uniformly.

Okay

Well, I'll try to talk him into it. We are moving some fence around so this would be a good time to fix fence for that. We have a limited amount of fencing but I also know that we need to wait on that until September. I'm hoping it will cool down by then! LOL

You guys will have to go and see the ad we placed on the barter board. We were given a little jack burro and Ross wants a female to go with her. Go check out my ad at "seeking."

He thinks we might be able to train and sell a few of these. I don't know. Maybe we can.

Anything you can use to scratch up the surface a bit will help you. Mow or graze real short. Old junky discs bring scrap metal prices at auctions. I bought mine (it is 6 feet single gang) for $25. I use horses but it could also easily be drug around by a pickup or suv. Just use a chain to attach it to the bumper and drag over the ground. Then spread your seed and drag again. For 6 acres you are talking about a lot of straw or a lot of bird feed. A bit of disc work will help hide a lot of the seed from the birds. This is how I do mine. I am just south of you in Missouri. I will be overseeding and fertilizing in about 4 weeks and then fertilize again in the spring for pasture ground. I am also redoing all of my hay this year and it will be brome planted at the same time as winter wheat.

I've seen people just toss seed out and it takes alright... of course not golf-course perfect, but good enough for the purposes.
