If you are in a mobile home without a roof-over or shade, I'm thinking you may be losing a lot of your cooling to the outside. What is your insulation situation?

You also need to have a porch that is falling down on at least one corner and a bag of trash that the dogs tore up in your yard to be trailer trash.

We don't have a driveway! We just drive/park in the yard for now. *Note to self* Buy pink flamingoes!

From what I have been told it takes as much energy to run one smaller window unit that will cool one home as a cetral air unit that will cool the entire house. At that difference the initial cost pays for itself quick.

We use window units. No matter what type of ac you use keep it in the shade to increase efficiency.

We have one window unit.

We open all the windows at night (turn off the A/C) and have a fan blowing air into the bedroom.

In the morning when it gets to about 72 or 74 outside we shut all the downstairs windows (leave upstairs open) and turn on the window unit. It keeps the office cool during the day and that's all we care about.

Love that coooooool air

We bought a little 750 sq ft house last year in the mountains of NC. The whole house is in the shade, but there were no windows on the north side of the house, and five 52 inch square windows that were there for the view and did not open. We had little option for ventilation.

My DH installed 2 energy efficient windows on the north side of the house, one in the living room and one in the bedroom and installed window units in each. We bought Frigidaire brand from Lowe's. I don't know the BTU's but it was appropriate for the size.

I usually don't have them on at night, but use at least one during the daytime, and our electric bill is still well under $100 per month for this total electric house. This month it was $77 and I have probably used it more this month than ever before. The units have a thermostat/energy saver on them so you can set the temp you want and not be wasteful.

White trashy??? Who cares? I think they look fine and my comfort and health are more important than anyone elses preconceived notions of what is attractive or not.

"NO NO! You have to leave your christmas lights up, too. And, park anywhere but the driveway."

But that's only because the junk car is on blocks in the driveway, right?

Here is your answer

Check out the column on the left
You will want the heatpump version, not the electric heat type!
