Hey there all of you.....glad to hear from both sides of the coin here. Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad to hear from disagreers, too! If you feel that it's worth it to watch TV, go on and enjoy it! No one here is trying to put down others, just having a little friendly discussion.
I have to agree with the posters that said there is some good programming available, especially with sattelite. Growing up, we had sattelite, and I enjoyed the history channel, nature shows (about huricanes, tornadoes, other natural disasters), and the old time shows like Hogans Heroes (my favorite) and Andy Griffith. I was not criticizing the programming, because I know that it can be found, if looked for, but my point was that from a time stewardship point of view, watching any program, even good ones, take up valuable time that can be used elsewhere.
Some may wonder why those on HT have computers, but I think that a computer can be controlled better than a TV, as far as what comes into view, and also that it is a very valuable tool to learn about things that are not commonly known to local folks. We started farming 5 years ago, and while I have learned alot from locals, the concept of sustainable management/soil care is not practiced in most farming circles. All of my knowledge about rotational grazing, manure and nutrient cycling, plant characteristics, soil improvement/renewing all came from the Internet. Neighbors are great at helping with equipment troubles and many have alot of farming wisdom, but most have followed the modern way of farming, hence the web has to serve as teacher in these other things!
Again, to those who choose to enjoy their TV, no brow-beating intended! Thanks all for the good discussion.
