Hopefully there will be more and more people who won't accept those vets!

Well, lets look at the other side of this coin.

Any of the complainers here have any idea how much a vet spends on their schooling, and buying or setting up a practice? Do you know what it costs to maintain a practice, hire help, upkeep on vehicles, insurance. etc. I do, and we are talking about an astronomical amount of money.

Vetting is hard, dangerous work, especially large animal practice they deserve to be well paid. Too many farmers with an animal in trouble at noon will wait until midnight to call, and then expect the vet to arrive within minutes with a big smile on their face, then moan about the bill.

Those that complain about the markup on vaccines probably don't consider how much vets have invested in that stuff that they must keep on hand, or how much is discarded because of expired dates. If they are denied a profit on these items it must be make up elsewhere if they are to keep the doors open. Usually is in the farm or office calls that folks seem to so bitterly resent.

If your dog gets hit by a car or you have a cow in trouble calving try calling the feed store, Farm & Fleet, or Jeffers and see how much they can/will do for you.

From what I've observed over the decades, Veterinarians who are both Large and Small animals have much more "workability" with us, because they know the Large Animal folks routinely do much of the Vet work themselves: vaccinations, castrations, branding, calving, etc.
Incidentaly, my stellar Vet, mentioned above, has the policy that if your pet is in for boarding, they MUST have the Vet administered vaccinations. Home vac's will not do for that situation with them.
My Vet is the few group of "the Best". A couple of decades ago, it was superb service from Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital also.
Seems putting out the names of the really good ones is worthwhile.

My Vet and his entire family which are all Vets understand that a small farm cannot afford to pay for the simple routine shots and maintenance care that most experienced horse people are capable of giving. And further more he really doesn't have time for it anyway. Once he gets to know you and knows that you are fully capable he would prefer it that you give shots yourself. He has to do the coggins blood drawing since his name is on the legal paperwork like the rabies shots but the rest of the stuff is up to the owner. They will come out if I ask them to but prefer that I just pick up the supplies and take care of the animal myself and only bring them in for serious injuries or illness.
