Who eats fresh fruit every day?

I eat at least 13 grapes nearly everyday (yes I count!), and at least 1 apple and 1 banana.
Also enjoy eating watermelon and muskmelon in season, along with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, cherries, plums, necterines, and peaches. Occasionally will eat fresh pineapple and pears.

Other than the fruits mentioned, what other kinds of fresh fruit tastes good?? Is Kiwi or Ugli fruit as good as some claim?

Who else loves to eat fresh fruit everyday? Where do you purchase your fresh fruit?

:)

wildhorse 06/10/07 09:41 PM

You will love kiwi its awsome....Im trying to eat more fresh fruit.

rwinsouthla 06/10/07 09:45 PM

From January to late May we eat strawberries daily from our garden. From early November to late January we eat satsumas and navel oranges and drink lemonade from our citrus trees. The other months we get our apples, bananas and peaches/plums from a fruit stand up in town.

PyroDon 06/10/07 09:51 PM

Im trying to eat more fresh fruit .
I like fresh pineapple as well as others mentioned . sadly the price sometimes is quite high.

Rockin'B 06/10/07 09:55 PM

I eat a banana every morning. Peaches when they are on the tree!

I'm more of a veggie guy, though I like fruit. I just don't like store bought fruit.

mistletoad 06/10/07 10:00 PM

We eat lots of fruit. Kiwis are good, I also love rhubarb, gooseberries, apricots, figs - oh who am I kidding, the only fruit I don't really like (but will eat in a pinch) is canteloupe.

We grow figs, mulberries, raspberries, blackberries and huckleberries and have planted apples, pears, apricots. We buy some from the Amish, some at the farmer's market, some at the regular market and the rest at farm stands and grocery stores - if I see fruit I buy it.

Spinner 06/10/07 10:06 PM

It's not possible for me to eat fresh fruit daily, it would cost a fortune to make the trips to town to get it fresh. I keep canned fruit, dried fruit, and fruit juices that I eat/drink daily.

Ramblin Wreck 06/11/07 07:08 AM

I try every day, with bananas and apples being tops on the list.

PinkBat 06/11/07 07:24 AM

Pineapple, fresh or canned, is my favorite fruit.

Fresh fruit isn't always available to me, so I keep plenty of canned fruit in stock...I eat it every day.

QuiltingLady2 06/11/07 07:48 AM

Fresh fruit everyday. In season fruit. An occasional tropical. But, usually just fruit from the area. We love to pick and eat BBerries. Early in a late July morning to go for a walk while the mist is still rising and eat my stomach full of ripe BB's from the vines. Yumm. That is heaven on earth. :)

Standupguy 06/11/07 01:32 PM

I love fresh fruit...eat it daily...took awhile for my 2 and 4 year old girls to prefer fruit over junk but SUCCESS!!! Here in SW MO lots of apple/peach orchards to get fresh fruit...but probally slim pickens this year with the late freeze.

Snugglebunny 06/11/07 01:34 PM

Our two boys go through a good 5-10 lbs of apples and 9 lbs or so of bananas every week. We also try to have some canned fruit on hand too. No garden here, so we buy what we can find on sale, and if we can get a good deal on oranges or berries and the like that's good too. Sometimes a watermelon.

KCM 06/11/07 05:36 PM

I eat canned fruit too. But given a choice, I prefer fresh picked fruit. Especially when I pick it myself on a gently cool early morning just at the exact point of ripeness.

I surely love fresh picked blueberries.

Oranges used to be one of my favorite fruits but not so anymore. Oh, I still like them, just not crazy about them.

Bananas are good anytime, and are an excellent quick-energy snack.

I do love grapefruit, but have to eat it in moderation anymore according to Dr's advice. Taking Lipitor and Dr says grapefruit can interact with the drug in the liver and cause problems.

I'll try Kiwi soon. Thanks!

What is a Huckleberry? (And please don't say "Hound") LOL.

DQ 06/11/07 06:14 PM

I wish. it's just to expensive to keep fresh fruit in the house so I eat canned, except for apples which I keep around. when they start comin I get fresh tomatoes everyday, and I think they are considered a fruit. mmm I have been staring at those monster green tomatoes for what seems like forever. Are they ever going to get ripe?

ruby_jane 06/11/07 08:59 PM

Yes, we eat either fresh fruits or veggies every day. Bananas ("banan" to Alex :) ) go so quickly, but I only buy them if they are 3 lbs for $1.00 or less. Grapes are popular, also. This thread reminds me of my neighbor and how I've become more frugal every day. She receives about $400 a month in food money for four people and can't make it last. But when she tells me how expensive it is to buy fruit roll ups for her, it begs me to ask why she doesn't just buy her daughter the real fruit..."She won't eat it like that"

Rocky Fields 06/11/07 09:07 PM

Hey.

We grow most of our fruit. My wife cans some of it for the off season. I eat fruit and drink real fruit juice every day. We also eat homemade fruit leathers for a snack.

I eat at least 3 pieces of fruit a day (a handful of grapes is 'a piece'). I like a lot of variety, and am always looking for something different.

Mainly I eat apples, pears, oranges, mandarines, grapes, rockmelon, watermelon, the occasional banana, strawberries. When in season, apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines. We get things like persimmons, pomegranates, guavas, pineapple, mangosteen, figs (sometimes, and they're expensive), coconut, pawpaw, mangoes, dragonfruit, passionfruit, lychees and many others as well, with several varieties of many of them. The only one I really don't like is pawpaw.

I'm very partial to fruit, and hate it when I'm ill and can't get out to get some.

Standupguy 06/11/07 10:04 PM

Hound...sorry!!!

Farmerwilly2 06/12/07 08:24 PM

Also apples and nanners. We grow melons, the fruit trees are still too young to bear even if the frost hadn't wacked em.

My favorite is a few thick-cut slices of bacon every week.

Now that's my kind of fruit! As for the rest of you - wow, there sure are a lot of happy colons around here! :)

I love fresh fruit, but for some reason after I buy it I forget that I have it, so it often ends up going bad. Other times I'll have a spurt of remembering, and will eat something nearly every day, but then I lose the habit again. Maybe someday I'll get it right....

pixelphotograph 06/13/07 10:08 AM

I eat alot of pears, kiwis and grapes.
I also drink at least a cup of apple juice a day. and sometimes orange juice.

GoldCountryGal 06/13/07 01:19 PM

I usually chop up an apple and a mango and put it on my tossed salad at night. Avacado also is a frequent salad topping. I am lucky to be close by to a very diverse and inexpensive selection of fruit and veges at a local (huge!) vegetable market. The kind of place restaurants go and buy by the case... So I usually get whatever is cheap and in season - cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, berries of all kind, grapefruit, oranges, bananas, melons. My biggest problem is that I am way too enthusiastic when I shop there, I tend to buy too much, thinking I will can it, bake with it, or whatever and then not being able to process all of it before it goes bad. I have learned to try and limit myself!

Marilyn 06/13/07 01:34 PM

Kiwi is great! My favorite way to eat it is to peel, slice, mix w/sliced strawberries and then add a dollop of vanilla yogurt. If we have blueberries on hand, toss a few of those in also.

MoonShine 06/13/07 03:34 PM

I don't eat fresh fruit everyday but I do like it alot. I love pineapples, especially. I think Aldi's has them for $1.29 this week,a few weeks ago they were .99 cents at Aldi's. Very, very good pineapples...I think I bought about 7 or 8. They didn't last very long :)
I raise canteloupes and watermelon....plus,the orchard is full of apples in the fall...not to mention all the wild berries during the summer months. Good stuff.

Fae 06/13/07 04:13 PM

I eat what I grow or is grown locally. Blueberries, blackberries, pears, mullberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, fig, persimmon, wild huckleberries, strawberries peaches, satsummas, plums, cherries. I plan to order a couple kiwi vines and grow my own so they will be local and I am trying to find heirloom apple trees that grow in the South. I have made a decision not to eat imported foods. All of the fruits I mentioned are grown by me or locally by others and the fuel cost to get them to market(me) is very low. I also don't like the fact that we import fruit and vegetables from countries that use chemicals which are banned in this country. No thanks.

Lynne 06/13/07 04:29 PM

Lately I have been eating strawberries, mulberries and cherries on my daily walks around the property. Next the blackberries will be fit. During the winter I keep apples on hand and try to eat one everyday. I also buy pink grapefruit when they are available - preferred way of eating them is peeled and sectioned like an orange.

Yes, as Earl Pitts (pause pause pause) AMERICUN would vouch, bacon is the fruit of the pig.

Ravenlost 06/13/07 06:10 PM

We have bananas, grapefruit or orange juice every morning. In season, we have strawberries with breakfast. Every evening when I am outside I eat whatever I find...strawberries, blackberries, etc. I put fruit in hubby's lunch box for work every day. Usually I have an apple as a snack every afternoon.

My son loves kiwi. I don't care for it. I love blueberries and cherries the most.

RedTartan 06/13/07 06:24 PM

I like all fruit except pears. I just don't like them. Today I've had a peach and a banana.

It's better than junk food :)

We eat fresh fruit when ever it is available. In late winter and spring when the apples are all gone we're reduced to canned fruit unless we buy at the store.

Cheers

Tomatoes are also a fave of the family!!!

Rickstir 06/14/07 02:03 PM

I will normally eat two bananas (1 for breakfast one late morning); 1 red grapefruit, 1 orange, 1 apple, 1 pear for lunch. I also have a glass of red grapefruit juice in the morning. I occasionally have grapes too. I also eat a cup each of fresh broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I have type II diabetes and this regimin keeps my blood numbers in good shape.

moore_farm 06/14/07 02:15 PM

At my house I cut up a melon (watermelon/cantaloupe/honeydew) 4 oranges 4 apples and about 10-12 strawberries its our homemade fruit tray. This is done daily

I hear ya there! A large bag of potato chips or corn chips and a container of dip is easily over $5. And it is not even healthy! Plus most of it goes to waste around here because we cannot eat it all before it goes stale.

Around here, the oranges are the most expensive of the fruits you listed. Strawberries, apples, and watermelon are all less money than the chips and dip though. And they are far healthier and taste far better too!

:)

KCM, a huckleberry is a bit like a wild blueberry and it comes in red too.
