I guess I just don't comprehend the thought of MILES to the mailbox. I only have an acre, but we are going to be farming 65 acres, which, the farthest point from the road is still less than a mile. How much acreage do you all have, that is the question I wanna know the answer to.

Half a mile. You can't see the end of our driveway from the house...trees are in the way. In the summer you can't see the house from the end of the driveway. I like that a lot.

Usually hubby picks the mail up on his way home from work.

We don't let UPS/FEDEX/USPS bring mail up to the house. We put a locked gate across the driveway where the diversion ditch runs (about 50 ft from the road) and a delivery box for them to leave stuff right at the gate.

EDIT: saramark, we have 96 acres. Most of it is in a flood plain so we had to build our house on the backside of the property...which we would have done anyway!

511 feet.

saramark - in my tagline I state that I am on 80 acres. I am the last place down a 1/2 mile private gravel road off of the county road.......

About 50' to the mailbox. About 1-1/2 miles into town for shopping (near Rowan U.) Have to go into another township for bigger stores like WalMart, Target, Lowes, etc.

Put the flag up, even if you don't have any mail going out and see if he lowers it after he puts the mail in.

ours is about 150 ft from the front of our house. it would have been about 1500....but i was nice to the mail lady. lol we live on a private drive that our driveway branches off of. 4 houses in total share the private drive......she told me i could put the box out in front of the house and not on the road....if she could park and eat lunch here once in awhile! i told her sure. she is great....has brought packages right to the house and is very friendly.

Ours hangs on the front of our house, about 8-12" from the door.

annethcz 06/07/07 08:26 AM

250 feet.

About a quarter mile. Nice walk, except in the mud/snow as the driveway needs some work. Mail lady drives right up to the house and puts stuff inside the porch if a little too big or heavy. She's great! :)

Ours used to be 1/2 mile from the front door but some neighbors petitioned to have the carrier drive down our road and have the boxes at the end of the driveways. Funny thing, the carrier went to the trouble to draw a map showing where the boxes should be (which side of the road) and it took months for anyone to install their boxes (even the guys who made the request). Ours is now 1/4 mile from the front door.

Our nearest post office is 4.7 miles (but it's not my post office... luckily my carriers will deliver to my porch if the item will fit in her car). It's 10.3 miles to a feedstore/little store/gas station (adequate in a pinch), 10.3 to a bakery/cafe, and 10.1 to the Mormon Church. Real shopping (such as it is) is 18 miles away on a curvy canyon road.

Most importantly is the fire station where I work which is 2.2 miles from my doorstep. :)

between 550' to 600' from the door to the box, up hill then levels out,

you can see the peak of our roof from the road thats it

20 miles! Most rural mail in Canada is becoming or has always been via post office boxes only. The nearest post office to us is 20 miles most via dirt road. Mail only gets checked once every week or two, or more. There is good and bad to that we've found.

My mailbox is 10 acres away from the house. Finally convinced UPS that is was probably OK for them to cross the "homemade" bridge when they saw that the bulldozer could cross it!!

half mile

Cindy in KY 06/07/07 04:06 PM

Half mile all down hill. Really bumpy and gut jarring on the riding mower! Our road is bad. Made the mistake of going down on my clean mower after a rain, and my mower deck was a foot high in red clay from the road by the time I got back! Should've seen me.... I was so mad at myself.....me and my pretty red mower were covered in mud just for junk mail...what I was expecting didn't come.

We have to drive down the get the Sunday paper.
