This type of thing just makes my blood pressure rise! My husband knows no more than I do about car mechanics, tires, etc., but I'd wager they'd be far less likely to pull as much with him as they would with me. The last time I went to get new tires put on, the guy came in and said "you might want to have the shocks replaced, they are showing wear." and just stood there looking at me as if waiting for a decision. I asked if the shocks were bad and he said "All I know is the mechanic suggested you get the shocks replaced.". I said I thought they were fine; I hadn't noticed any problems but I'd have someone else check them out later in the day. You'll note he didn't actually say "Yes they're bad.".

There were 2 men in the waiting room with me and we'd been visiting a little while we were all waiting. When the employee left, I asked the guys if he was most likely trying to "upsell" me... and they responded most likely. Then one of them told me when my car was ready, to pull it around and they'd show me how to check it. They were fine, as I suspected.

I guess we're all going to be far more suspicious from now on everytime we take a vehicle in for anything!
