I would just drive into a country town. Look for a GRAIN ELEVATOR. They should be able to supply you with all you need. They can also point you to smaller packaging places that can sell you clean bagged grain.

When looking for large amounts of grain. Go to the people that buy the grain of your local farmers.

Also call your county ag extension office. They will be able to give you the best place to get what you want.

Yes it can. Just get clean grains. Were do you think most of that grain is going? To animal and human feed.

FarmerDave - I organize a local co-op in Indiana. We pick-up on I-65 at exit 16 in Indiana - so less than 20 minutes from the bridge to Louisville. We order from www.somethingbetternaturalfoods.com - our next order is due mid June. If you are interested, just pm me with your email address.

In addition, we usually (but not definitely) place an order directly from Montana for bulk grains. We have a 5000 pound minimum, but don't usually have difficulty meeting the minimum. We will probably try to get another order together again some time this Fall. Their price in wheat beats the something better price, but something better has lower prices on all the other grains/beans and stuff.

Anyone else in the area who is interested, just let me know.

Hope that helps!
PJ

Anybody in west central MO do the same as jimandpj? I"ve looked at the sites given for "local" groups and there are none. Surely there is at least one group in Kansas City, but I can't find one. My aunt belongs to a group waaaay up north in the state, I think.

Bah, maybe I'll just go to the elevator and see what I can scare up this summer.

cider - I didn't get a price from Weisenberger Mills. They never responded back to my second email. They asked how many 50# bags I wanted and I said I was only searching for a source at the moment.

At Whole Foods Market I was put on hold indefinetly so I hung up after 5 minutes of waiting for a price. I figure no matter what the price, it's got to be cheaper than ordering it online and having to pay a shipping cost.

bill in oh - Thanks for the business names, I will call them and see what they have.

MsPacMan - Thanks for the reply but I'm trying to find a local source to avoid shipping costs or long drives to purchase grains and seed.

daytrader - Thank you for your input.

jimandpj - Thank you, I've been interested in finding a local co-op. I'd be interested in hearing about everything you offer. I'll PM you later.

Farmer dave. You just want clean whole wheat right? Noting organic or any thing fancy like that?

If that is the case. GO TO A GRAIN MILL or elevator. No shipping as you pick it up and market price for the wheat. I know for a fact that you can go west to the Indiana side and get wheat from the local mills out there in 50 pound bags all day long.

Heck, if you really want it. I can grab you a few bags and you meet one of my drivers on a off ramp or at a truck stop south of town and get it then.

I would do this for you, BUT as a last resort as I am sure there has to be a elevator in you area somewere.
