The gas companies are ripping us off, no doubt about it. They say it from hurricanes, low oil supplies etc. They're all excuses and lies. They have us by the short hairs though, most people need to drive for supplies and to/from work. There has to be some way to get the gas prices down. We're all trying to reduce our driving as much as possible, but we can't cut it out entirely. A horse and buggy would be nice, if I didn't need a car, I sure wouldn't have one. Chris

gas here is $1.21 a litre (cdn). which would be the rough equivalent of $4.10 a gallon (US).

we bought a newer car (2002 beetle). Sounds crazy I know but we figure it this way.
our truck was eating 1/4 of our monthly income ($250.. when gas was $2.99 its 3.39 now).. our new car payment is $251. a tank of gas cost $42 and (by only going to work/school and combining other trips) that will last for over a month. Of course the new car is a diesel and 5 spd so that helps as well (35 city/49 hwy.. Yee Haw!)

i "accidentally' went down a street I had never been down before (yesterday) and found "cheap" gas for $3.44!
Janis
(I was talking to another customer while I was gassing up and he commented that he has the same vehicle I was driving yesterday and he put a gas additive in and now gets an additional 3 miles per gallon. It was a brand I had never heard of and he says it is hard to find.....Wally doesn't carry it. I should have written down the name but didn't. Anybody know what he was talking about?)

pcdreams:
That could be it. It started with an "l."
Thanks.
Janis
(Would Napa or some other automotive store carry it? This guy told me the only place he knew that carried it would be a place about 50 miles or more from where I live.)

Was your truck paid for? Homestead economics would say that a paid for truck costs nothing if you don't drive it where a financed vehicle will cost even when parked between payments and insurance increases due to collision.

Earlier in the week gas was $3.56 per gallon, and yesterday it was $3.51 per gallon - a a price drop of 5 cents per gallon????? This is in Northern California where we supposedly have had some of the highest gas prices historically for the last few years...
I try to combine trips when I go to town for my industrial medical appointments (2 to 4 per week). Now if only the Government would increase my medical travel milage allowance more than 48.5 cents per mile, in order to keep up with the fuel costs!!!!!!!!!

We drove through Sydney, NE yesterday morning and it was $3.59 for the "cheap" stuff. I haven't been anywhere today to see if prices have changed around our house in No. Colorado.

Oh, Radiofish:
Can you send those price decreases north? I am SO tired of nothing but increases in my area.
Luckily (I guess) the highway between my house and work that has been washed out (and closed) since November is getting ready to reopen (June 1) and my 11-mile one-way commute to work will return and I won't be driving 23 miles (detour) each way.
The reason I say "I guess" is because it's been awful peaceful around here with the road closed. There's something nice about being at the end of a dead-end highway.
But, oh, the cost of commute!

$4.24
It just dropped to $4.24 USD a Gallon ($1.22 CDN a L), so we filled up the truck and Little Red (1990 RED Tempo L Ford).

$3.39 for cheapest here in eastern SD, $3.69 for premium. Diesel's still under $3, thankfully.

Janis Sauncy - here behind the Redwood Curtain I thought besides the San Francisco Bay Area we were had the highest gas in the contigious US. Now I guess not!!!
When I worked at the Fish Hatcheries the commute was absolutely zero. Open the door and you are at work, with a house on the hatchery grounds. But too much drama with the co-workers as your neighbors also 24/7...

Radiofish:
I think there's too much drama with co-workers just being there with them for 10 1/2 to 11 hours a day! I'd sure hate to live with them.

yes our truck was paid for. Thing is even with the payments and collision we're ahead money wise this way. gas was eating us alive just going to work/school.

SE Ohio - ours went up to $3.49 yesterday afternoon too.
Glad I don't need to leave the homestead for another couple of weeks. And I'm really glad we've got a bovine lawn moooooer (with built-in compost generator!) She's already paid for herself over the past 2 years.
