We get Bald Eagles and Red-tailed and Cooper's hawks all the time. Only one I've seen make a try for one of my chickens was a little Sharp-shinned hawk. Since the chicken was about five times bigger than the hawk it was quite funny. The hawk hit it on the back and tumbled to the ground, the chicken just turned and stared at it with a --- expression and then walked away. The hawk flew up onto a fencepost and worked on repairing the damage to its ego. I do find patches of rabbit fun around the place, I think that's probably the Great Horned owl we hear out in the woods.
Our place is overrun daily by wild turkeys. They are really out of balance, so I had a nephew come over last Saturday and bag himself a couple of toms. Now the hens are only outnumbered two to one instead of three to one.
We've had as many as seven eagles doing acrobatics over our place at one time. Had one glide over my head within less than 10 feet. That was a little disconcerting.
We're hoping the dogs will keep the deer out of the orchard this year, and the coyotes stay on the neighbors side of the fence where the pickings are easier.
