burning organic based waste is a better choice in my mind because creating new landfills can have impacts on the environment too. if it does eventually breakdown, and as another poster said, organics don't breakdown so fast in a landfill because of a lack of air circulation, it will release the same amount of co2 as if you burn it. the difference is that you will put particulate debris into the atmosphere. so burn it, and cancel the next trip down a dusty road that you would normally have taken.

Or maybe some cat fanatic would like to have it........ seems as though some of them love the horrendous stench cats create.

I'd just burn it, take any metal out of, and recycle it.

Drag it out to the unused hog pen and put your compost stuff on it. No need to bury it. Eventually it will break down.

if you have critters, drag it out for them to sleep on. it will eventually break down. they will thank you. mine keeps my goats happy. and even the chickens sleep on it. the added "manure" breaks it down naturally and wa la! i think that is the best use for itl

I'd cut it into smaller pieces and burn the wood parts. When you cut your grass mix that with the cotton from the futon and the ashes generated from burning the wood parts. That'll make an excellent addition to your compost.
