Forgot to mention, I also like the ACD. I used to have one and still would if my boyfriend hadn't dumped me and insisted on keeping the dog. It was my dog... took that thing with me everywhere, he was my best buddy. They're a very loyal dog, just not the best all around herding dog. They work good in lots and chutes where there's pretty well only one way the cattle can go.

In the old days, catahoulas were both fetching and heading dogs..no joke. Problem is nobody does that kind of work anymore except for Phil Phillips. He's one of the old timer cowboys who would go hunt cattle all day and still does at in his 50's.

I've read some of Phil's posts on another messageboard, I'd like to meet him someday and see his dogs work. He's hosting a trial on the 28th at his place.

I've met Phil myself. He's quite a character and could tell you stories about his cattle catching days..I believe in Arizona or West Texas. Doubt he would remember me. He has lots of natural bobtailed catahoulas because in the old days natural bobtailed catahoulas were considered prizes. Now days they're quite a bit rare due to some catahoula registeries docking the bobtails as a serious fault in the by laws. Quite sad, really.

I highly recommend going to his clinics.

I'll try and get to one sometime.
There's a line of HTCs that will sometimes have a natural bobtail that goes back to a catahoula dog. I like a bobtail/docked tail.
