I personal exclusively contract with independent contractors, I do not hire any employees.

I think you need to determine if you are a contract employee (I have no idea what a contract employee is thou) or an independent contractor.

We do hire temporary employees, but they have set start and end dates, we pay workman's comp for them and take out taxes but temp employees do not get any other benefits like vacation days, health insurance and 401K.

Good luck

1099

BossCooker

Did you fill out a W4 or a 1099? Abigail and I are lighitng designers and all of our work is contract. We have our own insurance and Work comp. but it is not necessary our employers provide it but it is not necessary.

If you filled out a 1099 you need to contact the local S.S. office immediatly and file a grievance. It is completely annonomous so you will not lose your job, but many companies have tried to do this uunder the radar and 90% do not get busted. We have filed aainst two employers over the years that have tried the same tactics.

For the record, I know Boss Cooker in real life - he's most definitely NOT an alien. One of the hardest working men I've known.

That being said, Boss, if someone doesn't know you, well, I wouldn't give much creedence to smart remarks. They're not worth the time - plus they can get you in trouble here.

I work in the transportation industry, there is no overtime pay required by law unless it is a state law. When I worked in new car dealerships in the south they didn't pay time and a half because of the transportation workers exemption from overtime. I guess you'll have to check into state laws.
