Suburbanite-

Thanks! I'm sure this must be a gopher snake. Was not at all aggressive, pretty scared, actually. Usually the TX black snakes is all we have. The guy (gal?) in my previous post/pic was new to us. Thanks again for the link.

Patty

They are easier to catch with a 12 gauge "double-barrel" shotgun!

Junkmanme... we live in east Texas... relatively speaking a pretty tame place on the continent...no grizzly or polar bears (extremely rarely there's a black bear sighting)...the mountain lions are terriblysome timid... bobcats aren't that agressive... wolves left the area years ago...and few large wilderness areas... And, I hate to admit it, but I'm a recovering adrenalin junkie...having led the modern day mountain man life (backcountry wilderness ranger) for years, any little ol excitement of the life threatening variety is such a rush. Birdiegirl saw the snake first, so my heart never did race... alas, I've done it too much, (snake catchin) to get any thrills. Of course, I could always just catch em with my hands, but I've got some more living to do first!!!
