I just posted there and expect I'd've gotten more responses more quickly in CF. I got 2 (both useful) responses in 2 days, and none from known (to me) or self-declared experts; in this forum I'd expect at least 20 responses probably at least 10 of them useful. So yes I wish I'd posted my query here.

Used to be I missed tons of great info because the volume of posts on board pushed that info to the second or third page in one day. Now I can go to the forums and sub forums I am interested in and the info is still there!

I know there is a trade off. People may not meet each other just becuse they don't frequent the same forums....but that is a side effect of success I guess.

If somebody is just wanting to read about dog issues they would likely go to the pet forum instead of weeding through the other forums. I do think a farm dog/cat forum would be great especially since this is about homesteading.
It can be a time issue, it often is for me as well.
I wonder if people post in different areas simply because they are more comfortable with the people who hang out in those areas. I often see farming or other topics in Single section, and it's ok. This all is here for people to enjoy talking to other people with common interests, and also to get help with problems.
There does seem to be plenty of interest in the pets section, so it would be missed I'm sure. JMO

for some people that don't like the name 'pet forum' might perhaps like to consider it a 'companion animal' forum. After all, whether homesteading as a community group living in the country, or 'city type homesteaders', it might be to 'tight' to be calling it a 'farm dog' forum. Pet forum seems not too offensive to me, even though I'm a country dweller and have both companion and working dogs.

I like the sub divided forums because (as others have stated) of limited time to read and spend time on the HT site.
