I no longer use Diamond .I was aware of the recall before my feed store about 2 weeks(because of this board). When the feed store called Diamond they said there was not a problem??? They continued to sell the product for the next two weeks and sold 50lb bags of some of the "bad" stuff. One fellow lost several of his registered coon dogs.I didn't feed what I had at the house and low and behold it was some of the bad lot #.If they had just admitted there was a problem when they knew about it. My rant about Diamond.
Honestly I don't know what is going on with the large manufactors is quality control no as stringent as it used to be or what??

Exercise your own quality control and feed your pets and working dogs a natural diet of raw meaty bones and organs.

By feeding this way you can support local producers rather than big business and never have to worry about recalls of "pet foods".

Additional benefits:
your dog will stop smelling "doggy"
less poop
fewer skin and yeast problems

Try it for a few weeks and see!

Well, this is great.....on this morning's news, they are now listing Purina ("Friskies") as part of the group. And I just bought fifteen cans of it yesterday. I looked on the list of ingredients and can't find "wheat gluten" listed on ONE flavor I bought: "turkey and giblets," but it IS listed on "chicken dinner with gravy, sliced." So, does that mean the one that doesn't have it is safe and the one that does isn't?

I think, though, my kitties are going to have to skip their morning treat until this thing blows over.

Oh, and they are saying ten animals have died; however, the animals sick is an "undisclosed number."

(Petsmart now has a pretty good list on their website of the foods they have pulled from their shelves that also gives the UPC codes. Of course it doesn't list the "store" brands, such as 'Special Kitty," etc. and I think it needs to be updated because Purina "Friskies" isn't on their list.....unless they don't sell that brand?)

Hesitate to reply, but I agree with your conclusion. At the present time if wheat gluten isn't listed you are probably OK feeding the turkey and giblets. I suspect the gluten has something to do with the gravy (e.g., artificial gravy).

However, what about the dry mixes you add water to to make the gravy?

Problem somewhat points out the problem in continual consolidation of feed suppliers. I suspect at one time there were literally hundreds of pet food manufacturers likely producing their own brand or two. Now, apparently, a handful of plants manufacture huge amounts under any number of brand names for nationwide distribution.

And no, likely all brands from the same manufactuer are not alike in that the buyers can specific recipes and ingredient quality.

...of damage that Diamond did - hundreds of dead dogs from toxic corn.

Check out the pet section on this site for December of 2005 I believe it was. Or just do a search on Diamond.

An update for those logging onto the Menu Foods site but unable to get anymore info:

I just tried it again and clicked onto "Special Kitty US" and was able to go to a list of the involved foods, along with dates and UPC codes. I was unable to do this before and I know some others mentioned problems, too, so I wanted to let those know they might be able to get a little more info now.

I still don't see Purina ("Friskies") on the list. Maybe I imagined hearing it on the news? I still have those fifteen cans on my shelf, half of which have wheat gluten listed, but am leary about feeding them. My kitties don't seem to be missing their morning treat, though.

Science Diet is NOT on the dog list. They also posted their own link for the cat list, and it is a small amount and specific cat food, savory cuts.
