I've got a 96 4dr sidekick/tracker. 4-Lo is a crawl as pointed out but over all the 1.6 is pretty gutless for real work. The tow rating is less then 2000 lbs. and I bet you'll be working the clutch pretty hard to get it going with that much weight behind it. I love mine and parts are cheap and easy to get but a work truck it isn't.

I've thought of doing a diesel swap but the cost would be more then the truck. Up here we're seeing a bunch of imported RHD japanese vehicles with diesels and I've thought of getting one of them. Not sure how RHD would work out during the commute though.

I think they'd make a great little chore truck. Add a dump bed and fetching firewood and moving stuff around the place would be a breeze.

I'd love to have one.

They use lots of them in our Facilities Department, and they seem to hold up very well. I wouldn't want to drive one on a public street for safety reasons. We do tag ours, but only for use on city surface streets.

Diesels, 2wd, 4wd, hydraulic gates, hydraulic dumps, onboard cranes - these trucks have been around forever in other countries - Japan, Australia, Asia - etc.

If anyone has any questions about Suzuki Vehicles feel free to ask. I have been into them for the past 10 years and actually run a small aftermarket parts business for them. Those little trucks are bullet proof and parts are easy to get.
