At least that plant is shut down, though I have friends in Winthrop Harbor who joke that it still glows at night...

I'm a little further south of you (not far from the big blue IKEA), but do get up that way occasionally. (DH's best bud since grammar school lives in WH.) Are you in Zion proper, or just in the "almost WI" area?

My Dad goes to the Chana sale almost every Tuesday. I have gone a few time, but work usually interferes with me going. Have bought and sold lots of critters there. Pretty interesting sale. We also go to the Kankakee swap meet which starts up again next month. Now THAT is an interesting sale.

Take care,

You should go to Baumgartner's in Monroe then.

Oh, gawd, the Chana Sale...I swear I heard banjos! I'm country born & raised, but the Chana Sale--next time I'm not goin' alone (mainly to have someone to back up my tale!) Reminds me of that joke where the wife's waiting for dh to finish eating because it's his turn with the teeth! If you're looking for it, odds are you'll find it there. No livestock, though, just poultry and rabbits.

Well, I've driven PAST Seneca. It's on the way to Marseilles. (No, in Illinois, it's not pronounced the way you'd expect it to be. They say "mar-SALES." No kidding.)

Speaking of Seneca, I grew up on the far north side of Chicago, in Andersonville. There was a Seneca Restaurant there. So it makes me wonder if Seneca is a Swedish/Scandinavian town?

Also, this Chana sale... Sounds like an interesting place for us Northern Ill-annoyers to meet up. How often is it held?

LOL Yep Mar Sales it is. I have sisters in Ottawa and Plainfield. I don't know about the Swedish thing I am Norweign (and if I spelled that wrong forgive me). I hoped you waved when you went back. I lived in Seneca for the first 18 years of my life. I still miss that small town. My last relative there just passed away last month.

LOL. We just moved here from a mailing addy of Mantua, OH - pronounced: Man-away. Sounds like a repellant product.

There were several weekly line auctions/swap meets/produce/livestock auctions near us there. Been wondering if there was anything like that around here... Chana is a 1 1/2 hour from here, though... Anything closer to the Sandwich/Ottawa area?

The Chana sale is Every Tuesday. And yes it is interesting. Although, not as interesting as the sale in Kankakee. I have never seen so many different ethnic groups in one location. Definitely a learning experience for em. We do a lot of people watching there.

Take care,

Hi folks, I'm near yet another NUKE PLANT, Braidwood south of Joliet!
Star, we are just east of Seneca, beautiful country. We hike Starved Rock by Utica at least once a year and try to go farther each year. Made it from the Lodge to Owl canyon and back a few years ago.
Never been to Chana sales although occasionally go to the Kankakee swap. People watching there is...interesting.

I Have Never Been To The Chana Sale, But I Know A Lot Of Folks Who Do Go. I Have Heard That Some Who Attend May Be A Bit Inbred. ( I Mean The People Not The Animals) There Is A Livestock Sale Barn On The Grounds-i Beleive They Are Still Having Sales. They Sell Tons Of Produce And Plants Of All Kinds, Household Items, Small Animals And Poultry. My Neighbor Goes, He Was Buying Tables Full Of Stuff For Almost Nothing Until His Wife Got Fed Up With It. They Were Averageing One Vacuum Cleaner A Week Last Summer.
They Have A Spring Farm Machinery Sale Also. That Should Be Soon.

The best part about the Chana sale is that there is something for everybody. Vans, cars, boats, trucks, food (a bit old but edible) and all kinds of power tools. My buddy picked up a bunch of plywood for less than half if new.

I'll be going to Baumgartner's today or tomorrow. I love limberger and onion sammiches.

I know a guy who goes to Chana in the late spring and gets produce from the south. The best watermelon I have ever had in my entire life came from Chana. Also, the best peaches. When my buddy goes, he fills his truck with chips and cookies.

I believe that Seneca is a Native American Chief. Or was it hte name of his tribe? I believe he/they was one of the ones that starved on "Starved Rock", but I could be wrong. All I know about that park is that when I went to IVCC we'd go over there and smoke pot.
