Do You Have a Blog Poll

Do you have a Blog? Please vote, yes or no on the poll.

a few questions to add, if you wish to reply with a post.
If so, what reason made you want to get one?
If not, will you plan to have a Blog soon?

Do you even want a Blog?
Do you read Blogs of others, and how many, how often?

moonwolf 02/22/07 02:28 AM

Well, something went haywire.
The second choice should have read "NO" rather than "Non Church Going Christian"
sorry, that got screwed up. And I don't know how to fix it.

So, between the 2 choices to vote are
YES
NO

River Rest 02/22/07 05:46 AM

Yes, I have just started a blog. Just to have a little fun & maybe some extra income writing. Please come by for a visit.

This might be a dumb question, but how do you get 'some extra income writing' by having a blog??

I enjoy keeping my recipes in one spot as I am constantly looking for them, so now i can just log on and go to them, plus stories that happen around here.

Chuck, why are the comments turned off on your blog?

Chuck 02/22/07 01:58 PM

To quell the spam. Feel free to comment here. :)

I started my blog to keep in touch with friends and family while we are living in Budapest. They can then "check in" on what we are up to when it fits best into thier schedule instead of me filling up thier e-mail when I feel like it. Others that we have met but don't e-mail can also see what we are up too (we homeschool and have alot of people that are interested in what we are doing from an "educational" aspect). Not to mention it's alot faster then e-mailing 20+ people every week!

LOL,Moonwolf....I saw those poll choices and thought you had lost your mind!

I had a blog for awhile,I thought it would be fun to document my "homestead" activities. It didn't last long though, because I would forget to write entries.

No blog. No wish for one. Never intentionally visited a blog site. Never want to again. Can't see the point.

Rockin'B 02/22/07 04:44 PM

I started one when we moved into the new place. I soon found out that I just didn't make/take the time to keep it up. They are only worthwhile if they are kept current.

zigspider 02/22/07 05:56 PM

We have a blog, and try to keep up to date with it, but still going through planning permits etc. so will be more interesting when we start getting the homestead going.
Sometimes good to vent about problems to the 'world' when you can't to the people you know. Also good for diary purpose. Doesn't have to be daily, but just to keep track of what has happened in your life.

Not at all a dumb question. There are companies that will pay you to write about a product, service, website, etc. You sign up with them, get assignments, post the article on your blog, you get paid. I wrote an article about one of them on my blog.

I'm new to this so we'll see how it goes. Most want your blog to be 60-90 days old. Mine's only less than a month old.

I'm into family history so I've tried in the past to keep a written journal for my descendants to read, but I'm not too consistent with it.
I have a "myfamily.com" website where my extended family posts news and photos and stuff like that. It keeps us in touch across several states. That's nice.
I found Walter's Blog (he posts as highlands on here, I think) and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to do one too. It combines what I like about journaling with what I like about the myfamily website.

The blogs I read are listed as links on my own blog. I don't keep up with all of them due to time constraints. Sometimes I read them daily, sometimes once every couple of months.

I thought I posted on this thread yesterday but don't know what happened, now it's gone.

I have a blog. Had it for almost 2 years now.

I was participating in an art group that illustrated a different theme every week and I needed a place to upload pictures of my work for the others to see. I have no knowledge of setting up websites and with blogger it was easy as 1,2,3.

At the time we were in the middle of a major transition and searching for our farm so I would blog about our progress. Once we found our place it quickly morphed into more of a farm journal that family and friends in England could visit to catch up on our news. I recently opened an online t-shirt/gift store with CafePress so now I also use the blog to showcase new designs and drive a bit of traffic to my shop. We've been off grid for a while due to an ice storm so it needs updating.

Yes, I love to read other people's blogs. Actually, that's how we eventually found our house! A guy ( now good friend) down the road posted that his neighbor had decided to sell their 34 acre farm, what a lot of work they'd put into it, and how nice it would be to have another blogger living on the same dirt road! We were concentrating our search in this area of VA and I would read this guy's really nice blog to feel conected to the place. He sent us pictures of the house and land and we were able to get down here and put an offer on it before it was actually listed everywhere. He also give us way more info about the property than the realtor had written - including little bio's of the (truely wonderful) neighbors!

So, all in all blogging has been a very positve experience for us.

Yes, I have one.

http://dunhagan_gardening.blogspot.com

I started it as a way to talk about gardening, hometsteading, and the things I see around the place. We do a family newsletter, but it's hard to send photos because there are always issues with someone or another's systems so they can't see them. This lets me post pictures and text so that the family could go there when they wanted to. I decided to make it public as well as a way of gradually linking up all of the Florida gardening and homesteading blogs that I can find plus a few from other states and nations that I like.

Love the chicken coop. It was hard for to tell, is it just wires above or is there netting, also, how tall are the posts sticking out of the ground and the gate?

A.T. Hagan 02/24/07 01:20 PM

Just wires, but in the seven or eight months since I put them up not even a crow has come down inside. I have a hot wire around the top of the fence to keep the coons out. The verical fence is five foot welded wire so I can walk underneath. I've got wire trenched around the bottom to keep anything from digging under. The gate is a bit over six feet.

The garden doesn't look like much right now because we had so much warm weather for most of the winter that my winter crops like greens suffered mightily from bugs. Right about the end of January we had a frost that finally zapped the peppers and eggplant. I've been busy getting the fence up (marauding pigs) so haven't had time to clean up inside. I'm hoping to get started on that tomorrow.

No blog here, but would LOVE one! I think it would be a great place to practice my writing.

Yes, over at HomesteadBlogger.com - To the Hilt.

Why? Because I've always had a bit of a writing twinge to me, and it's a good place to ramble (as I am occasionally prone), post avatars, have the occasional discourse on society and politics, and post about things in my Christian walk.

A catch-all, really. :hobbyhors
