I called the oral surgeon to get a price and was told it would be $615 to get the tooth pulled--I know, the people at the dentist's were horrified I'd consider pulling the tooth but we don't have dental insurance any more. I'm getting the crown but have to wait two weeks as my dentist is going on vacation. Hope I don't get a toothache before then. The dentist pulled a tooth for DH a few weeks ago and it was $168, but he said he couldn't pull this tooth because of the roots. It wouldn't be so bad if I thought this was a permanent fix but the tooth DH recently had pulled had a crown and he lost it anyway. It makes me wonder how people who get dentures afford to have their teeth pulled. DH also needs a build up and a crown, so by March 1 we will have spent $1998 so far this year for dental work on three teeth.

I have not had time to read all the responces, but Try to Keep your tooth if Possible----------I wanted to add this for other people that are in the situation I was in 3 years ago. From neglect as a kid I had 21 cavities at age 21----Spent alot of money trying to fix my teeth. No Insurance. Got two teeth knocked loose in my upper front teeth when in my 20's. They tighten up but I needed root canal--I never got-----I lost all of my back chewing teeth over the years. I went to my dentist---told him we had to fix my teeth. He said I needed to pull the top front seven(all that was left on the top) and get a top denture and get a partial for the bottom. I didn't have any teeth missing in the front top or bottom. I ask him a Price----He Said his work for the top denture and bottom partial was $1200 and I would have to go to another doctor(that I had used before) to get the top seven pulled. Thats Doc's price was $975-----$2175-----I told him I would think about it. I was told by several people to go to a Dental Clinic about 1 hr away----I called them and they told me a price over the phone--I am thinking something isn't right. My GF has a cap done at her dentist a couple years earlier for $800 but had problems with it--threaten to sue--gave up---But she had went to this same Clinic and got it pulled and got a Partial a couple months earlier and was happy---------So I got brave and went----The dentist Talked me into keeping my two Eye Teeth because they were In perfect shape(Vampire Man--LOL)---said they will also help hold my top partial/plate in place------I went with it---He made a mold---I left and came back a few hrs later---He pulled my top 5 teeth with less pain than my normal dentist put me through---Put in my partial---Told me to come back in 2 months to get them refitted(price included) after my gums shrunk----I walked up front to pay the bill---------$255 Total---That included a X-ray---5 extractions and a top plate/partial--He said to wait till I had my teeth refitted in two months to get the bottom partial made at a cost of $145(economy was $120). Thats been over 3 years, I still am very Happy with their work and the average person can not tell I have a Partial--Teeth Look Good. Good Luck!! Randy

GA isn't that far from SC so it might be time for a roadtrip!

Healthy teeth are important to our overall health. It's too bad that functional dentistry isn't covered by general insurance.

I also have had #3 fractured. I am a dental assistant so I had a crown done, then it kept hurting and I had a root canal done. Then come to find out my tooth had fractured down the lingual root and I had to have it out. Now I have an implant to replace it. It was really expensive but at least I have a tooth there. If you loose tooth #3 you will really miss it. The first molar is one of the biggest teeth you have. Try everything to keep it. Or if you decide to get it out you can have it replaced with a bridge which ends up costing the same as an implant. I would ask you dentist how back the fracture is and if he can prep down to it, or if it goes down a root??? Lori

Hey Im not selling out America, and I dont shop at Wal Mart.I dont buy ANYTHING from China if I can find it made anywhere else.I dont trade with countries that dont offer US a balanced trade sheet.I put my money where my mouth is.

Im saying we have been sold out completely by the traitors who pass as politicians, and PROTECTING our jobs is their (The globalists) LAST priority.

There are insurance plans that INCLUDE all the expenses to fly you to India for surg.Sorry, thats TODAYS REALITY.

Hate to point out reality, but this is one of them.

As for Mexican dentistry,Ive travelled with the RV crowd, and KNOW they get fine dentistry at 70-90% LESS than here,so there.Same with meds.

And yes,I know WHY its cheaper,Im in the medical field too,I know how our first class high tech medicine costs big bucks.I also know you dont need it to get good results.

If your choice is no teeth or Mexico,Im going across the border,as many retirees have no choice but to do.

So dont go telling ME what it means to be an AMERICAN!
And dont go putting yourself on a pedestal to tell me where I can and cannot live because YOU dont like the message. This is MY country Too,whether you like it or not.And I still have the right to FREE Speech, whether YOU like it or not!

How DARE YOU challenge my patriotism! Or question my RIGHT to live here! Who put YOU in charge of determining citizenship, and who qualifies for it ?

And Farmer Willy,I couldnt care less for your snide replies either.Get a life.HEH HEH HEH.

Yep, Mexico is absolutely a viable option. My fil and mil have been having their dental work done there for going on 7 years now and have been happy with the quality of the work. Sometimes they drive to Mexico, sometimes they fly, but in all cases the cost is significantly lower than what it would cost them to have the work done here. The two dentists they use graduated from one of the American dental schools.

Shop around for getting a tooth pulled - I called the other day when I thought I had chipped a tooth - $75.00 for a simple extraction cash price/no insurance.

Yep, everybody likes cheaper prices, but really sucks when its your job outsourced and you have to face price competition. Dont like it, well shouldnt have voted for all those globalists the last few decades. Welcome to the era of NAFTA and the Union of North America.

Maybe if there really is poetic justice, we'll soon outsource lawyers and politicians....... I bet we could get some guy in India to do what our current president does for only $10k per year....

A lot of people go to Mexico for their dental work.

We spent 9 months in the Phoenix area a few years ago, and that is where many of the snowbirds head when they first get to the area.

Our grandkids other grandparents go there. The grandfather got an estimate on some dental work and a bridge and it was exorbitant. He had the work done in Mexico for less than $300. He said it was the most painless work he had ever had done - no pain afterward and it healed quickly.

Believe me if there really was a huge problem, our government, the dental associations and medical associations would be screaming to high Heavens about it.

I am going to have to have some dental work done and I plan to make a trip to Mexico. It would have been really smart to have gotten it done when we had dental insurance - before we reached 65, but didn't. I don't trust dentists in general and am a chicken to boot.

AS for moving to Mexico - that's where some of my money goes - at least I could be close to it.

BooBoo, let me see if I have this straight. You don't shop at Wal-Mart because their inexpensive products are made in foreign countries...but you have no problem with purchasing inexpensive dentistry in Mexico. What am I missing? Seems like a double standard....seems hypocritical.

The DH went to a guy that rushed a filling and screwed it up, ended up having to have a root canal on a tooth that didn't bother her a bit to begin with. $750 for the crown sounds alright , but you might want to shop the extraction, you may be able to get a deal if you offer to pay cash! Good luck!

Wow, everything went well yesterday, no fillings needed! The cleaning took a little longer than usual as it has been over 5 years since the last one. My dentist is so cool, he just showed me a couple spots to keep an eye on and didn't jump at the prospect of additional business. That's 25 years without a filling, I attribute it to flouride which we were forced to do every week in school, and the fact that I do not eat many sweets or drink many sodas.
