snow

Really snowing hard and getting less visibility.
Got the dog walked this morning, and water to the poultry. Must try again soon for their second drink of the day, and then hopefully an hour before dark if I can see to get to the coops.
The hard part is if the snow gets to be about two feet and then the buckets must be held higher so they don't drag on the snow causing most of the water to splash out. Holding them higher is a difficult weight lifting exercise.
Wind is picking up...snow seems to be coming from the north, but not sure.
Hope everyone is safe and warm...
Ann

So the day started off well...

Got some calls to go plow some drives for money. (did a bunch of charity plowing yesterday).

Hit the first drive (discounted price because I know the family, they go to church with me). Leaving their place, see their neighbor huffing and puffing, ask him if he wants a quick plow job. Easy drive way and short for the country... plow him out. His new chevy (no weight in the back, silly man) can't back out even over the plowed snow. Tell him to put weight in it and he says: "I bought the best tires they sell". I should have just left then... country living, city attitude.

Hook up to his hitch, pull him out, stop the trucks... he's in the driveway, told him to pull off in the side I plowed already... I pull out, go to flip truck around and back blade up near his garage, I am sitting in the road, the next thing I know WHAM! He nails me. Backs right into the corner of my truck (rear corner). Bends my bumper under (hit it at a perfect 45 degree angle, the weakest point of a bumper) crunches some sheet metal and busts my tail light. Hit me hard enough that it broke a rear brake line...

He said, I have insurance, etc... I said forget it, I've to an old tail light lense at home and will pull the bumper out with the tractor...

Limped it home (used the plow as a brake) put it in the garage and letting it heat up and melt everything.

Took the steam out of my day pretty much. I don't want to go lay under it now...

made a little less than a 100 bucks in my first 20 minutes, but it will cost me in the long run. Just one of those days I guess.

Oh, and it's still snowing... although we have had two short breaks where it stopped... I think we are getting lake effect from the back side now.

ARRRRGGGHHHH.

Looks like we got around 6 inches over night here then the rain packed it down, making for some real heavy shovelfuls of snow. Since this is the first real snow we have gotten this just happened a few minutes ago.

Our back hill is what realtors would call rolling… if you tripped there would be no stopping until you hit the bottom.
Thing is that the neighbor boys (high school age) asked to go sledding.
I said “sure just watch for the fence.”
“Why is the electric on?”

Wonder how they made out?

We have gotten another foot of snow since noon and it's still coming down strongly. That's on top of the 18" we had gotten this morning. Slaughtering a pig out in that weather, with the wind picking up and it only being about 3°F, was interesting. Big reefer...

Cheers

Got some batteries charging and eating some soup, will go out later... it's in the garage (with the plow on) so it won't be the best shots, but I'll post 'em in a little while.

Same here. Official count was 28" of snow. That's a record storm for us here. I just spent the last two days plowing, just got in and am going to bed.

Goodnight.
