We would love to stay here, but the prices have gone to high for us. Plus DH could do more short hauls in Eastern SD or MO. We would like to see more of him.

I agree with FolioMark! I love the way your view of the house unfolds as you go up the drive.

Good luck and do keep us posted.

Was your husband able to get a load that will take him near there so he can go see it too?

If they accept an offer you then go forth and rebuild it if that's your to your liking.
At their price of $1945/Acre you probably can find a property in the southern half of MO., AK, or Eastern KS that has a structurally sound house and functioning well and septic.
Just my opinion....
Funny, I didnt know land in AK (Alaska) was going that cheap?

We won't know until Monday. Right now he has a load from FL to MI. He somtimes takes cabinets (he hauls mostly Merrilat Cabinets) to IA, & MO and then he will go right by there. So I am hopeful.

My college roomate was from Cainsville, Missouri. She was really smart - she earned a chemistry degree and then got a graduate degree and became a pharmacist. She was so dedicated and such a hard worker. So the area schools must be ok!

That upstairs picture in the hallway with the red doors gives me the heebie jeebies big time. Im not sure why but it gives me the creeps

I do agree its a lovely area though and the land alone is worth it.

3 areas of concern.

#1 The house is located 1 mile down a gravel road.
Public road or private road? If its a public road, thats OK. If its a private road, that means you may be sharing road maintenance costs with 12 hillbillies on welfare. Follow up on this to see the exact specifics of who pays for road maintenance.
Another item on the road. How does it hold up during the spring thaw season? Is it even passable?
#2 Water One can always drill a well. Of course, it could cost $10000 or more.
#3 Electricity Have a knowledgeable person inspect the wiring. It likely has been updated.

I will have more information on this house tomorrow. We have a contractor going out to check it out. This is very exciting! He also told me of a couple of job possiblities for dh in the area.

The house here is one month out!

I will let you all know what he says!

Update

Land in the area is $1000K per acre. This house needs the following...

All wiring
All plumbing
New foundation
New roof
new siding
Flooring either resanded or covered

The outbuildings are in worse shape than the house.

The land is beautiful.
We couldn't get our semi into the property.

Contractor says it is worth about $45K.
Guy turned down $68K last year.

BUT he found us a 30 acre parcel, bare land, & a modular that can be put on a basement. Total price for complete ready to move in would be about $70,000. Add outbuildings???

Just thought you would like to know. Anyone else
