One would presume that such a story would have been reported on. I can't find any local information. Every area of the NW has emergency services, why didn't she simply call 911? Eco terrorists are cowardly people. They do not strike where there are witnesses. They do their work in the dead of night.

Priceless

Due to animal rights stuff we have seen happen to people we know
I don't allow anyone over to buy unless my husband is home.

We will bring out dog with us when we go outside to greet a customer.
(Our pitbull)

We have pen and paper in the barn and can take down a lisc
if we ever need to.

I went to buy cages many years back and an old aquaintence
told us he had to get out of the mink business they kept coming and
attacking. One time the sabotged the water in the middle of summer,
many mink died.
And yet another time during the night they opened all the cages.
During the time he had a bunch of momma's with babies,
once let out you can't tell which baby goes with which momma and
if put back with the wrong momma she'll kill them. He had to destroy many babies to avoid them being killed by mother mink.
Sometimes they do real stupid doodoo to make a point.

Thanks, everyone. I'm glad I asked "just in case".

One thing about media, isn't that what they want? I kind of thought they were a case of any attention is good attention, and I'm sure getting a microphone in their face is just what they want. If vandalism was done that was expensive, that would be to their detriment, but if it was only releasing animals, I'm sure a lot of the public can look the other way over that one.

DocM, I can't tell you anything about the incident that was described on the Yahoo group. It could have been something that happened several years ago, as well.

PETA Scum

If anyone comes around here that I don't know I have a Piece in plain sight,to let them know I don't know them and I don't intend to have any troubles or misunderstanding.

This makes sence considering we do not really have any Law in this area to speak of.Plus it helps if people consider me crazyer than them

I remember when I was a young teenager and heard about PETA for the first time. Being raised vegetarian and generally “pro-animal”, the group sounded great. Well, that illusion lasted for a very short period of time. While I am completely appalled at how animals are raised in factory farms and think that they should be shut down or really clean up their act, I have absolutely no problem with killing animals for meat in general (I just know that I could never do it myself– thus the vegetarianism).

PETA should be going after the real offenders here – confined animal feeding operations. NOT regular people raising their animals ethically for home meat production. What is wrong with them!?!

I am also against myself owning guns (I don’t like them, but that’s a personal preference), but I am all for someone shooting a PETA thug trying to steal their meat animals (yes, it’s probably not legal…). But maybe just shoot to wound…

As I've seen a lot of folks say "call 911", know that many of us live in areas where that just isn't a fast enough response to the intruders. It would take 20+ mins for the sheriff to get here... and that's if he's already awake and dressed!

I like the idea of holding a rabbit hostage! Even better, I like the idea shooting their vehicles up so they can't leave. Then just maybe they'd still be here when the Sheriff finally did arrive!

Other than that, yep, I wouldn't think twice about pulling a gun on them.
No, I wouldn't shoot them unless forced to that point (like they run AT me, but then I'm covered by law). Our property is well-marked, all around the entire 80 acres, and IMO, intruders (especially if they announce themselves as being up to no good) lose all rights once they cross the property line.
The nice thing is, the local law enforcement would back me up.

This type of scenario would definitely fall under the Oklahoma "Stand your ground law", if they were threatening her she would have had cause to draw on them and I would have. That's ridiculous and I hope she files as many lawsuits and restraining orders as she can.

Call 911 and tell the operator you just shot two thieves stealing your rabbits. They are still alive, but doesn't look like they will be very long. No matter how far it is, they will get there VERY fast.

Here in Missouri it is still assault with a Firearm just pointing. So if it is called for you might as well pump some lead in them.

Like I say there is no Law to speak of around here.

If someone came to your place and stole your tv, he'd be a thief. Stealing rabbits is still stealing, and you have the right to defend your property.
I'm not saying shoot to kill, but you can shoot to discourage.
Nothing I hate worse than a thief.

Then if you have a few hogs, you can feed the PETAs to them. I am sure that would be very fulfilling for them - at last they would have done something useful for the animals...

I'd just let 'em do their thing as long as they didn't try to harm my person. (It's legally safer.) But, I would mention to them that I have a VERY GOOD MEMORY and a VERY BAD ATTITUDE.............

just my 2 $50 peso gold Mexican coins,

Why is everyone so paranoid about Peta? Have they changed laws somewhere so that you can't raise animals?
They're a bunch of kooks and moviestars.
If your animals are in good order I can't imagine them wasting time coming to your place. There are plenty of abused animals around (better story/footage for them).

Depending on their resolve, it would be hard for them to get past 2 locked gates and escape out of the field with any bunnies in their hands. And of course that would be after they entered the bunny tractor to catch them in the first place. And all of that would depend on them being able to find my place to start with. When I sell things, I normally take the item and meet people in a populated area. It would be very unusual for anyone to get directions to my home and come here, even people who have been here before usually get lost and can't find their way back.

watching a PeTA activist being mauled by an LGD would be some pretty darned satisfactory irony.

My guess is that if you fired on their vehicles and disabled them, they would quickly shift gears from arrogant, threatening hooligans to quivering masses of jello. They aren't brave folks and they never think anything through to it's logical conclusion. They're also all a bunch of super leftist ninnies who are scared witless of guns. They'd likely continue their bravado if you just brandished the firearm, but let loose on their vehicles with a 12 gauge and they'd probably be begging you not to kill them.

That said, it would seem wise that if you are selling animals or animal products to the general public you shouldn't be alone when a stranger shows up to make a purchase at your home. If for no reason than to have a reliable witness to corroborate if there is trouble. If the woman was advertising in such a way that PeTA picked up on it, no telling what sort of criminal could have shown up. PeTa isn't the worst of a bad lot, unfortunately.

I think it was mentioned on the yahoo group she advertised on Craig's List that she had meat rabbits for sale. That's how they got onto her.

The thing with a gun (you using it) or with them assaulting you, it's going to be a "he said, she said" thing with you against them. If you have a gun, they might say you brandished it and threatened them, and if you get pushed to the ground, they might say you started pushing first. Etc.
