Red cars have more accidents, its true.Camaros and Firebirds have higher than normal accident rates.

Your chances of dying in a Volvo are almost ZERO.

I have no interest in siding.

hehehe
I just spewed cocoa-hot cocoa at that! I best start a thread on how to remove sticky cocoa from my keyboard.

(If we have any thread drift, could it be about how good doughnuts taste with cocoa?)

LOL BooBoo, but that was not the question, was it? It was a question about horsepower and wrecks, not the chances of dying by car make.

Even though your premise is specious, and it is not part of the original question, I disagree with it. Your chances of dying in a Volvo are in actuality much greater than "almost zero." That you would make such a statement indicates that you have been affected by Volvo's marketing message. The death rate for Volvos is also highly variable by model.

From http://www.answers.com/topic/volvo-cars ...

By the mid-1990s there was little to distinguish Volvo from some other manufacturers (notably Renault) on safety when put through tests such as EuroNCAP as other manufacturers caught up when they realised the marketing potential of safety. The Volvo 745 had some severe problems with the C-pillar that could break in collisions even at relatively low speeds. The design was strengthened and the 740 was renamed as the Volvo 940. Also, the production of P1800 had to be stopped because it did not fulfill US safety standards. A US study showed that Volvo's safety have been slipping according to Russ Rader, a spokesman for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. A Volvo spokesperson denied that the company's vehicles are any less safe than the Institute's top-rated vehicles.

That explains it then.

http://www.usroads.com/journals/aruj/9702/ru970207.htm

Of 178 popular passenger vehicle models in the study, the lowest death rate was for 1990-93 Volvo 240s--an average of 0.1 driver deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles. The highest rate was for 1991-1993 two-wheel-drive Geo Trackers--3.2 driver deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles. The average for all vehicles was 1.1 driver deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles.

# No driver deaths at all occurred in single-vehicle crashes of the Volvo 240 during 1990-94.

# Nor did any deaths occur in rollover crashes of the Volvo 240 during 1990-94.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Youre right, they have slipped (of which I was unaware), going into the top 5%,then 1999-2002 to top 15%.Still better than 85% (approx) of cars out there.

Guess now that its another Ford you get a Ford.

THAT was my point,to introduce the dreaded thread drift.

Now we are actually learning something instead of whining about how someone does or doesnt answer questions 'appropriately' ,eh?

Me,I like thread drift. Its like conversation,or brainstorming.I dont do well trapped in a box. IMO.

After all, it's not fair for you to be building a house/barn/siding/ or anything else if everyone on the forum can't do the same thing.

In fact, you should stop what you're doing immediately and send money to the "Chicken Littles" so that they can build a house too.

Then and only then, will you be above reproach.

Start your next thread with:

"Does anyone think this is a bad idea, because if you do I will send you enough money to do it right and then share the photos with me."

That's the only way to stop the negativity...level the playing field...don't ever have or do anything that anyone else doesn't have or do...
I thought you was in Rhab?? Good post. Lots of funny stuff on this one

[End of Rant]

My suggestion to chicken littles is DON'T LECTURE. State your opinion and your concerns...maybe something like..."Oh, I had a relative [injured/died] from that because of [insert cause/short version]. I would be careful of [this or that]" Not a list of statistics, instances, causes, chemistry, physics, laws and lectures. I don't HAVE to listen to my parents any more, I'm all grown up.
How about a few suggestions YOU might want to take to heart.
1) Step back and review your name calling ie,"chicken little" for what it is, arrogant, condescending and belittling.
2) Ask yourself why you find it necessary to throw in nasty comments about things like the "danger of peanuts" when some of us have actually lost a father to a disease that you ignorantly have determined isn't really a safety hazard?
3)Ask yourself why it's OK to promote a practice (removing asbestos siding without proper training, equipment or experience) that can result in serious, or fatal, lung disease decades after the fact?

Your mentality takes me back to a day over twenty years ago on a Hospital construction job. I politely asked a stupid plumber to stop breaking asbestos off the copper elbows he was trying to scrap. He was standing in a hallway with public acess, spreading cancer causing dust into the air. He tried to make me look like an idiot, then called a laborer over to clean it up. The laborer also acted like a horses butt, making comments about what a pussy I was, "afraid of a little dust?". The odd part was I'll never forget the laborer. Like myself he was very young, and had an unusual first name. I don't know how the plumber made out in life, but the laborer died from asbestosis at 40. Left a wife and a few kids in elementary school. I realize that you don't give a rat's butt about me, or anything I write, it's more important to call names, or make comments about peanuts. but for those who do care about there own health and that of their families remember:

There is no safe form of asbestos. There is no way to just rip any asbestos containing building products off and bury them, without exposing yourself to cancer causing fibers that take decades to kill you. Once you contaminate an area, you risk long term exposure to your family, as your wife sweeps the porch, and your kids play around the outside of the house. These are the facts. If that makes me chicken little, too bad. If that causes somebody to stop and think before they start ripping and tearing, great.

Catspaw, as for your claim that your "all grown up", I guess you have a different definition than most. But taking cheap shots at somebody who knows what he is talking about, and has seen the horrible results of mishandling this stuff, is more than a bit childish.

Question Ok....

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and ask...

Is it OK to "Snort" Asbestos or not?

Also, What would happen if I ate an "Asbestos Biscuit"?

Just curious.

No, don't snort it or eat it. Also stay clear of the following:
Water---too much of it might cause drowning
Iron---sharp shards of it might impale you
Wood---splinters might cause tetnaus
Glass---if broken can cut you
Anything electrical---might shock you
Tall things----you might fall off
Hot things---you might get burned
Cold things---you might get frost bitten
Loud things---you might go deaf
Heavy things---you might drop them on your foot
Allergic causing foods----peanuts, wheat, milk, cheetos, strawberries, citrus, tomatoe
Red meat---you might develop heart disease
White meat---possible salmanela
Fish---possible mercury poisoning
Basically, live in a bubble (unless you react to plastic), do not interact and live a long life, or at least a life that seems long.
