Of Course, in my County, here in the Southeastern Appalachians, nothing would be done to you, because the guy falls into the category of, "He needed Killin'".
Isn't that what 'extra knifes' or sharp sticks are for???

...On using chains, forgettaboutit... Last month my tractor got in a bind with a logging chain, and the only solution was sawzall'ing it... took all of about 30 seconds to saw through it.

Thanks to those that have given USEFUL suggestions. For SOME of the rest of you, no comment. To update everything, at this point, I have put in the posts on either side of the drive and will camoflauge them (make 'em purty) later. For my other theft deterrent, I'm updating my resume and will be applying for the County reserves in the next week or so. Nothing says "move along" like a county car in your drive!

Take Care,
Mike

You need a creative sign

Mike,

Being in the ministry, you need a creative "No Trespassing" sign for your gate.

Something along the line of this:

PRIVATE PROPERTY
All Trespassers will be introduced to Jesus -
one way or another!

And remember, all the "stuff" is God's property anyways .

I hate a thief worse than anything.
If I caught somebody loading one of ours, the police can have what's left of him.
What you should have done was just stay out of site until he had it loaded, then take a shotgun to his tires, then call the cops.
Not your fault he fell down and cracked his stupid thieving head on that rock.

3-put in a concealed switch for the ignition wire
I did this with my old car, and guess what? I took it to the mechanic's for some work and forgot to tell them about the kill switch which I got into the habit of flipping when I parked. They couldn't start my car, hence it sat there all day unfixed, and I had to leave it there for another day. Well, there was a "duh" moment if there ever was one. Another blonde moment performed by a non-blonde chick: leaving the mechanic my car keys.....but not the key to the Club that was on the steering wheel.

Gee, I hope that the same law applies in Ontario; I'll just be sure to rip my bodice before I start and

I can't believe the average person would go around stealing tractors. Here, they prefer ATVs. You pretty much have to chain them down. I would love one for farm work, but it's that theft factor that scares me away. The bloody things cost more than most of my cars ever have! Is chaining an ATV the best way to protect them? Can you not pretty much just roll them if they aren't secured? I have no idea......

I get called Boylez by a lot of folks...I guess that since I am heterosexual, perhaps I could be considered a Boy Lez...but it just confuses many people.

"Is chaining an ATV the best way to protect them?" Dixie, the best place for an ATV is under your porch or very close to your house out of sight.

In most states, if the land is posted, "No Trespassing" - there can be a fine attached, if they get caught.

I like the sign:

"Caution - Monkeys!
Their bite is quite painful and highly infectious!"

It conjures up all kinds of ideas in their heads - 'maybe this isn't such a good place to visit...?'

Out of sight, out of mind also helps. No tractor, ATV, mower, etc. EVER sits outside overnight here. I've taken what some perceive to be extreme security measures at my workshop. Will it keep determined thieves out? Certainly not. Will it make it easier to abandon my shop and go down the road to one less secure? Without a doubt. Not that I wish thievery on my neighbors, they can take more extreme measures than mine if they choose, I'll even help! Then I'd be the easier target.

On my old "huntin' jeep", I put a simple, small, shut-off valve in the fuel line. I shut it off each time I left my jeep unattended...usually while hunting.

I put the valve in an easy-to-reach, not visible, area under the hood. It was a very nice old M-38 (Korean War Jeep). Never got stolen! With the fuel shut off, I figured the farthest a thief could drive it was about a mile. (Of course, they coulda "loaded-it-up" like they were figurin' to do with your tractor!)

just another thing you might consider doing. (Also, you might put 2 ignition switches in series and make sure one is "out-of-sight")......(It's your equipment...you KNOW where the "out-of-sight" switch is......)

just a couple of pesos worth,
-Bruce-
