I've grown most veggies in containers. Overall, keep tomatoes in larger containers unless growing a smaller variety (i had beefsteak type tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets...they fried!). Peppers do AWESOME in 5 gallon peppers. I had lots and lots last year. Onions do excellent in long containers. Deep containers are good for carrots (i grew some monsters 2 years ago). Lettuce also does very well in containers...just keep an eye on moisture and where they are sitting, because in the heat of the summer you could possibly fry the roots.

Small Lemon/Lime trees, tomatos, herbs and strawberries in pots are my favorites.

Seriously consider using some soaker hose & short pieces of PVC (to bridge gaps between pots) to make a semi-permanent watering system for your containers--it will make the inevitable daily watering MUCH less of a chore. All you have to do is hook up the hose & turn it on, and you can walk away! I had to aim the hose at each pot last summer and vowed to NEVER do it that way again--I didn't get much out of my "garden" because I got SOOO sick of watering every day, sometimes twice per day. I had to run the hose from my kitchen faucet out the patio door, too, so that little set up would have really saved me, had I thought of it earlier.

I enjoy container gardening although would rather a raised bed garden if I could have one. I live in town now temporarily, so do containers. My Veggies do well as long as I fertilize them 1 X weekly when growing in the Spring. Than later on not so often. Where I live I water once a day and they do fine. (Montana) Of course if summer is extra hot, 90s and 100s, (it happens now and than here) I water them as many times a day as needed.
I plan to try some new ones and love the ideas I got from reading all these interesting post. I can see everyone here is thinking "Spring" (*_*)___Patsy
