Rather than give you any advise I'll just say a quick prayer you get the water you need. Congrats on the new house also.

Story of Water? Are you taking artistic liberties with "l'Histoire d'O"?

Hope your well issue works out.

What are your neighbors wells like? Here in E TN public city water is in demand because wells are terrible and the quality of water is NG. Most areas even quite a way out are running water lines. Unfortunately even the utilities are having problems with water supplies and quality. Wars will be fought in this country over water in the not too distant future.

thank everyone!!

school- i hope to set up some rain barrels to water livestock soon.

bee- it's becoming an issue all over. so far, the water, including city water in newport, is excellent. tourists comment on it all the time. the water in this little place in under a lot of slate (or is it shale?) that gives it that funky sulfur taste. actually i don't mind just a little sulfur, it's those undertones on the existing well, kind of sweet and salty, that make me nervous. i'll probably leave the old well to water livestock. and hey! my house plants look better than they ever have.. maybe fertilizer run-off?

our current county admin is hard at work trying to get water lines in. however, it's not because of water quality, it's because shopping malls outlet stores and factories won't move here without it. i can't say i consider the man a friend. it's very short sighted.

y'all have a great day.
Sorry! A cistern saved me $$ over a new well and gave me good water. Thought that is what you were looking for.

Good wishes.

That's actually not bad compared to what's available in many places here. The pump might be the place to upgrade for you and a filter system. If the water is SAFE to drink (have a comprehensive test done), you could probably get away with a $50 whole-house filter set-up to "fix" the problems you've described.

==> Did you witch it to find the good water if there's any down there? Witching can also tell you how many gpm you'll get. I would not even consider drilling until the witching was done.

mmmmm-kay ...

Didja also have someone read the tea-leaves, meditate over a crystal, whisper incantations, and wave a dead chicken around?

Come on, folks, people don't *seriously* believe in such things do they?

Water-witching?

Are you *serious*??!?!?

there's not much choice when it comes to decidding where the well will be. anyting level enough (i am in the smokies) is either house site, flood plain or drain field.

told the well digger i was going out to witch it, and he said i should cut a chickens throat and let it flop around. wherever it quits flopping is where they would dig the well. LOL!

I laughed the first time I heard of it, but once they put the rods in your hands and you feel it for yourself, you start to believe. I've used copper rods to trace and find leach fields, water lines, and choose a spot to drill a new well. It works. Laugh if you want, but it really does work and I would never invest thousands of dollars into drilling without using the rods to find a good spot.
