Consumption of large amount of carbs and starches isn't healthly. This is because your body converts them to sugars. Would you eat a whole bowl of sugar for dinner? if you eat a bowl of carbs or starches your really eating a bowl of sugar. Its best to eat a balanced diet, rich in vegitables, fuits and meat (or fish). Although one should limit their consumption of fish and shell fish since our oceans, rivers and lakes are contaimated. For decades large cities use to dump trash in the oceans and great lakes. A lot of petrochemicals from runoffs also end up in lakes, rivers and oceans. All this trash ends up in seafood. If I recall correctly, one of the gov't food agencies recommends limiting seafood consumption to one or two meals per month because of the high heavy metal content found in seafood.

http://www.dietitian.com/carbos.html

"All carbohydrates are made up of sugars. The body is going to break carbohydrates down into simple sugars (glucose, fructose or galactose) whether the carbohydrate is refined grains such as white rice or white bread or a more complex carbohydrate like starches or dextrins. The end product will always be the same - glucose. The difference is the carbohydrate in starches like breads is 100% available for conversion into glucose. Whereas other sources of carbohydrate like fruits are only 50% available. Therefore, some carbohydrates have a higher "glycemic" effect on blood sugar than others."

I can't go without meat, red meat specifically. I become seriously moody and ornery without red meat. When I am really deprived of it, there is nothing I enjoy more than a nice thick "very rare, almost raw" chunk of meat. There is something about chewing on a chunk of bloody meat that I find soothing and calming. After all I am a carnivore. As far as how much meat I eat, tons! DH is diabetic so our meals are mostly meat and veggies. Even fruit is poison to him. So meat and veggies are safe.

None, but I'm a vegetarian. However, I do cook some type of meat everyday for my hubby and kids. I just don't eat it or touch it with my hands. I can do wonders with forks and wear thin gloves when making meatloaf. I add all kinds of seasonings and marinades, but have no idea what it all tastes like. No complaints from the family yet. I haven't eaten meat for over 28 years and I'd probably have a heart attack if I tried now. Total system shut down. I know, weird isn't it? :-)

Not making fun of you but I think you could replace the word meat with alcohol/drugs/cigarettes in parts of your post. It sounds more like an addiction than nutrition.

No addiction Beeman, just differences in people's taste. I am much the same, I eat my meat very rare because it tastes better. Nothing worse than a well done steak IMO. I hears an old cattle rancher say, when asked how he liked his beef cooked, " Knock off his horns, wipe his butt, and run him across the grill. "

I enjoy steak also, just commenting on the wording.

Left to myself it would be mostly cheese and eggs for protien, rarely beans or lentils.
Love fish but we don't grow it... I don't seem to need to eat meat, and I'm not crazy
about big chunks of it (those fatty bits, yuck!) though I like the flavor. We raise our
own so there are periods I'll have lamb, chicken or turkey daily or even twice a day
and that's too much for my system...

We eat more meat now that we eat good meat than we did when we were eating regular food. DH would die if he couldn't get near some meat twice a day.
Meat is needed for the kids brains, I just eat less than everyone else.
