If it were me, I'd say horse. But the fact you even have to ask means for you the answer is ATV.

Unless you have a passion for horses, you shouldn't keep them. They require at least as much attention emotionally as a dog on a daily basis *plus* the extra work of feeding, stall cleaning, and daily grooming.

For your daughter, first, get riding lessons on someone else's horse, then lease one for a month or two to see whether she really wants all that work long term, before embarking on a purchase. Also unless there are other kids for her to ride with, it would be better for her to be at a stable where she'll have some company and also potentially exposure to more experienced horsepeople to learn how to deal with situations with horses as they come up.

I have both. The quad is a tool around our place, we do a lot of work with it. The horse, however, is for pleasure.....which of course, provides a lot of work for the four wheeler....hmm, funny how that works! LOL

I love my horses and they are pretty spoiled but I've never had one that remotely required the amount of emotional attention that a dog does. Another horse, or a goat will satisfy their companionship requirements. I even had one that was buddies with a guinea hen.

If you don't have time to interact with a horse you'd better choose the ATV. You are, to a gelding or mare, the the alpha mare. The stud horse is for breeding and protection. The alpha mare rules the herd. Watch, and pay attention to herd dynamics.

Cesar Milan of "the Dog Whisperer" actually started out with horses, learning from his grandpa(pleeeeeeaaaase National Geographic, let him make a horse show!!)--anyways, watch his dog show to get a feeling for what I mean about living with horses, it's the same thing, discipline, exercise, and then affection.
He started out with horses? Cool! I would love to see that. I only started watching his show lately; very interesting. Most of his teaching does have to do with common sense. I think he spends more time teaching the owners, too, than the dogs.

On dirt bikes(when I am an old woman I will wear purple and then ride a quad...).
Don't forget the red helmet!

That goes for husbands, as well. Those are great pictures, especially that sweet little donkey.

Westwood, I love your signature. That is definitely one worth remembering!

Sometimes the cost of having to slow down and take care of an animal pays dividends in other ways. You won't get that from a machine.

I've never had a horse but have had lots of motorized toys. After I broke them all and had to hoof it again I realized that the only thing I saw was the next corner. I'll never go back. There's just too much I want to see in the woods.

I do love animals, I only have so much time to devote to different things though. Sounds like I may just have to bond with my dogs and forget the horses, at least for a little while. I have to much on my plate currently. There's always "tomorrow".
