Bob- instead of oil soap is great for lubing nails and screws. Ivory bar soap on screws is not messy and holds well too. Nice start

That is really cool Bob. And I love the way the land lays and the gorgeous trees. It all looks so serene.

We have an old cabin on our property that was built by hand in 1904. It started as 1 room and was added onto over the years to the point that it is currently 2 stories. Still not very large, but I am always impressed that they built a 2 story home with hand milled lumber. I love that place. We are fortunate to have 2 of the grand-daughters of the original owners live right down the road from us. They're up there in age now, but came by and walked us through the cabin, telling stories of each room and thier memories of the additions to the place.

You'll really have something when you're finished that you can be proud of. Shoot - you already do!!!

Isn't it great to be building something of your own!?! If you do get concerned about the rot issue just lift the whole house up on jacks and cribbing and put stones under it. I jacked the roof off a farm house and added a second floor and also put a bond beam concrete foundation under the whole thing - about 250' x 8" x 3'. I'm not a pro either. Read and think, do small versions and you can do anything. Have fun with your house and keep posting pictures to share. Cheers, -Walter in Vermont

beautiful pix Bob..When I built my shed 16x12 I took great pains to square it..Needless to say One wall is 2inches longer than the other..Can,t figger it out.I measured corner to corner and still bungled it.It still made a nice shop just as long as nobody comes in with a tapemeasure.

Absolutely beautiful. I can easily see why you love it there.

Man, that is a ton of hard work. I bet you end up looking like a fiddler crab with one huge arm and one puny arm.
