I personally would NEVER go through that amount of work and NOT use a gas powered plate tamper... I dig out and fill with 304 limestone and tamp to about 1/2 inch to where I need to be then screed 1/2 inch of limestone grits. Then I set the stones and tamp with the mallett. I then use sand or limestone sand swept over the top and tamped witht the gas powered plate tamper... I use my lazer transit to set the grades ... Your job looks good and ya may be ok if you did have a well used drive under it. I hope so...

The wife says they're not noticible and that I'm a perfectionist.

Her favorite saying as we worked together on this project was, "That's good enough, we ain't building watches here".

I figure...ok...the wife loves it...that's good enough.

But then I step back and see that little hump...I dunno if I can let it ride or not...I'm trying...

My son has said throughout our whole project whenever that perfectionist side comes out " It's good enough for who it's for.." Funny, my Grandpa who was a capenter used to say that all the time but he died before my son was born. Anyway, I love your patio and I never get tired of looking at pics of your house...so many good features.
