Very interesting that a larger scale pork producer, and land developer wouldn't want the little guy who buys his land to raise hogs. I'm sure the little guy is as equally capable of containing hogs as is the larger scale producer. After all, they successfully contain horses, cattle, rams, and bucks, and dogs too.
I'm relatively sure the larger scale pork producers would prefer the little guy not to raise their own pork either.

Isn't it sad that industrial farming has ruined people's perception of farming, and resulted in these restrictions. In truth, properly raised animals should never smell, with the exception of a billy goat in rut. I recently visited a hog program at a college in NC and there was no foul smell what so ever, and this was a 50+ hog operation. My town will permit farm animals within city limits, however they require them to be permited, I choose not to permit mine due to the regulation that chickens have to be caged, and I prefer to let mine run loose within the confines of my fenced back yard, I just play nice with my neighbors and do not keep roosters!

I have some property in the middle of the desert. It has ONE restriction,no pigs.

There is an ostrich farm across the street, except for some moaning noise they make at night, they are fine neighbors,no odors, nothing.
I like the animal sounds myself.

well I know my pig can't compare in size to the big hogs some people raise. But he has about 2 fenced acres and there is no smell at all. he just hangs out, nibbles on grass, naps where he wants and sleeps in his house with his kitty cats. I also have a ban on pigs in this area, but no one has ever complained. There are cattle and donkeys about a mile down the road.
