Mine came over just before WW2. Legally. Religious freedom and all that. And meshed with all the other millions of Germans working hard.

I personally PREFER a mixed belief forum, it more closely matches what we'll find in real life & helps prepare us for neighbors & friends who don't always believe as we do. We NEED to understand & be used to other types of people, otherwise we're more likely to fail in our own homesteading efforts. Worse.... it's when we get too insular that we start risking more Wacos & Jonestowns..... more burning crosses & suicide bombers.

I'd also suggest that the internet is NOT the best place to seriously discuss religious beliefs..... text only communication allows far too much opportunity for error & misconception. At best, such is safest restricted to a RELIGIOUS forum.... not a homesteading one.

Besides, just ask yourself.... would you rather have a neighbor or forum co-member with the same religion as yourself.... or who knows what he or she is doing? This is one reason that so many planned utopias & religious colonies have failed.... overreliance on conformity of belief doesn't compensate for lack of ability (same reason the Soviet system failed.... being a diehard party member didn't make you a good factory manager, or medical student, or science researcher, etc.... but that was ended up being the criteria that most people were picked by).

My suggestion would be that if people feel they must specialize, that they go regional (rather than religious), for the insight & assistance that people in their area & facing similar conditions can give.

(On a totally different topic, it was very nice meeting you & thanks for the Nankeen in particular. I'd been wanting to see what it looked like for a number of years. Do you happen to know if anybody associated with the seed bank still has the Cherokee blue mustard.... I saw an empty seed packet with that label...?)

Kenuchelover.

I ask that people give this forum a look. I'm enjoying it a lot. It's just getting off the ground so be patient. There is a chat room on there and the last few nights we have been chatting starting around 9:00cst. Just come look.

Wonderful, wonderful post .... and I'm gonna check out some of the links .

Woodsmokeinherhair!

I believe I was wrong to use the the word *stupid* in the above sentence. I am now going to replace the word *stupid* with discontent ... because I believe it more adequately explains, what I wanted to say. And I am sorry if I offended anyone. ...
You know, if you had just edited your entry and NOT explained it, I would have never known you at first used the word "stupid" ... now I know. But thanks for editing it. "Discontent" certainly seems more appropriate.

Peace and smiles,

GardenWeb

One of my favorite sites to hang out at

http://www.gardenweb.com/

If you click on forums and click again on garden forums, there are so many different message boards to choose from:
Farm Life, Homesteading and many more
My favorites are Texas Gardening, Frugal Gardening, Garden Photo Gallery and Garden Junk

Check it out, but be careful, very addictive, especially the garden galleries :baby04:

Smile Attention

You hear every day the cries for "ATTENTION" ...ME, ME ,ME.. "me and mother", what in the H is that ? When does a person put them selves before their mother ?
WE are retired and are "attempting' to unite the Donkey enthusiasts around the world, at times I think starting a Buffalo riding Club would have been easier.
When we first started the National ADA Donkey Association there were people jumping out of the woods to argue the fact if one was necessary or not. Come to find out they had their own group to defend, and fear that they would lose control ,plus attention to them selves.
WE have a picture here in the ADA office of two Donkeys tied together, between two piles of Hay, pulling in different directions. The picture goes on to show how they got together and ate both piles of Hay.Need I say more ?
ADA CEO Dale McCall......"helping to IMPROVE the STATUS of the DONKEYS".
