DANG!! I'd love to come. But having just been hired by a local nursery - I'm working every weekend into November.

I love cold weather camping. And that sounds like a great group!!

Hmmm, don't you feel illness coming on during that weekend?

Ok, MelissaW and SCG... I ain't the one to be organizing pot lucks, etc... so why don't y'all get together and let us know what you want to do. Just post what we should do... this is OUR (not MINE) campout!

Thanks Bob! Normally for a potluck supper, everyone who wants to just brings a casserole or covered dish of some kind to share, and sometimes also a dessert (that is where the "luck" part comes in!), and everyone brings their own table service (plates, napkins, and utensils).

What do the rest of you think? Do you want to do it? If so, post what you would like to bring. If not, say the word and we will go dutch on food. I like to cook all kinds of things, so I'll wait to see what others want to bring and fill in any holes in the menu. That way we don't get 15 pounds of potato salad!

Ok... I can bring a chicken casserole
We should decide "when" we want to do the meal -- Saturday afternoon perhaps? That way anyone who can't spend the night or can't come on Friday can be included as well. More people might be apt to come.
Bob/Amy if anyone needs to heat something is it ok if they borrow your oven or an outlet for a slow cooker? Better yet.. Amy -- is there anything WE can do to help YOU out?

LOL! If I'd been there awhile, that would sound do-able. But I've only worked about 8 days so far.

If you do it again next year, I'll just ask for the weekend off!

I'm planning on bringing some nice dark honey. For Friday night (and Saturday morning) I have plenty of hot cocoa to share.

I'll figure out some kind of cassarole (or salad). Also on the list of things are a whole bunch of paper plates and cups.

Yum-oh! I can't wait to see what all of you great country cooks stir up! Chicken casserole and cocoa sound great! Can't wait to hear from Amy to meet her and hear what we can do to help.

Mike, my son considers honey a seperate food group! When I tell him he might get to try honey from a real beekeeper he will be over the moon.

Right now I'm thinking about making singing cowboy beans (the kind with hamburger and three beans), pumpkin bread, and popcorn balls, but I can change it if it looks like we'll be short on something.

Maybe we could post a list of who is bringing what and whenever someone adds to it, they can just copy and paste and add their items and name.

As a side note, I already have a commitment for NEXT october for someone to raise out a hog to roast... of course we won't put the cart before the horse! We will have a great time at this meeting first and then plan next years!

Ok, update, the neighbor across the street said he will donate a pig anywhere from 20 lb to 135 lb (dressed) for roasting if we have somehow to roast it...

I told him I appreciate the offer and would get back to him. Anyone have a pig roaster, or should we wait till next year?

Buckeyes....
I am living in Canton for awhile and would like to come out and meet. If y'all don't mind a tarheel/hillbilly transplant that is. I won't be able to camp Friday but can come out Saturday.

Someone say pig roast?? sniff... sniff... sniff...

I have a pig cooker but don't have it up here with me. I do have a smaller drum smoker with me though (never leave home without it ) and would be more than happy to cook a shoulder or a few butts and make some good ol Carolina pulled pork for my 'dish'. I will just need a small shelter to put it under in case it rains. Let me know.

Kurt

Hello Everyone! I finally made it on. I am so glad to hear of all those who will be attending the campout. It will be alot of fun!!

A Saturday Night Potluck sounds good to me too. You are more than welcome to use my stove if you need to or if you need a place to plug in a crock pot.

The recipe exchange is a good idea. It is always good to get new recipes to try.

If anyone would like to learn how to do canning, I would be more than happy to show you how.

WELCOME online Amy!! So nice to hear from you. It all sounds like it will be a great time. Since we live close, feel free to let me know if you need any extra hands before the big event to get everything ready.

Hi Amy! Welcome! It's so good of you to host this campout. Can't wait to meet you! I may take you up on the offer of an outlet for a crockpot if that's OK. If there is time, I'd also love to learn about canning. I've never done anything beyond pickles and calico bean salad, and have never even attempted a pressure canner. Now we all have to hope for dry weather!

Personally, Pot Lucks are lots more fun when you have no idea what anyone else will be bringing. That's basically what we do at our Buffalo River campout and sometimes the meals are more balanced then others - but we're only talking a couple of days right? And heck, if you end up with 20 potato salads, or green bean casseroles -- that's just another fond memory to share at the next campout(s)

Someone always has a pack or two of hot dogs available to toss on the grill or put on a stick, if you end up with a kid (0-80) or two who just can't bring themselves to try anything on the pot luck table.

Trust me Zeal - if it's just you and your family - you're still going to make some memories worth having

Hugs
marlene

Hey Marlene - It's probably because ohioians are type A retentive folks that we need to plan the Pot luck... LOL.

I have so much stuff to do around here... I wish the weather and my schedule would cooperate! Hurricane Kurt, we would love to have you... So you're bringing/making pulled pork???

Bargar/SCG... will let you know as we get closer. We may need help picking apples around the corner at Richardsons Orchard.

Just give us a hollar -- When I was a kid our church youth group used to go to Richardson's every year. I haven't been there in years. Apple picking would be fun.
