surgery...does this sound weird
actually it sounds very business as usual to me. The clip is there to mark the location of what looked abnormal on the mammogram...calcifications on the mammogram are not always visible or easy to see with the naked eye...so they marked them. The repeat mammogram is to ascertain that the calcifications seen on mammogram are actually in the tissue removed for biopsy. I know for a nonmedical person this all sounds very scary...it is sort of like the joke about a minor procedure being one they do on someone else. This is very normal, though and you should not worry. If you have questions that have not been answered to your satisfaction...that is your absolute right. Why not make a list of questions now...and then take that list with you the next appointment? Also, it is a really good idea to take a family member or trusted friend with you to the next appointment. They will hear what you do not or remember what you forgot...and they can ask questions that never even occurred to you.
I know that this is scary...I am a breast cancer survivor, and I DO understand...but you should know that probably 90% or greater of breast biopsies turn out to be completely benign. I also know that statistic doesn't help because in the back of your mind you wonder what happens to the others? Just know we are all praying for you and want to hear the results as soon as you know them. No matter what, early detection is the key to a long life. But we will all pray for a completely benign biopsy.
Hang in!
