Why do so many people think that 1 acre is not sufficient for 2 goats? Below is a recent picture of our penned in area for the goats (while it was being fitted for new posts). As I said before- free choice hay and served grain 2x a day. They have lots of trees in the back like walnut, oak, wild rose bush's, etc.Plus I feed them extra veggies from the garden like cherry tomato's which my youngest doe loves! If you WANT to have goats on your 1 1/4 acre after acquiring chickens, you should just go for it. Not everyone on this forum knows it all- myself included. Everyone's experience is different along with their opinion. I have had goats here for 2 years and they have been great on the 1 acre! You need to do what is best for your situation. Do your research and visit the local library. They have alot of books on the subject. Call your local extension office.
I even take mine on walks down the road while they are on leash's. So what! People have potbelly pigs in the burbs and they freely roam the house!
From the American Dairy Assc.
“one-half acre of land per milking goat should be plenty.”
I have healthier goats then some people who have 5 acres! I take care of my animals and give them enough space to roam. Mine are also let out to eat apples from under the tree and eat up forage from spots outside the fencing while I have them on a hand held line. The neighbors even ask if I would let the goats come over and eat up some of their brush.
welcome to the normal side. LOL.
