How come we NYer's pay so much more? I had to go on the budget plan this year because I can't come up with $300-400 a month extra all winter. Really p$$es me off. I locked in at $2.39 a gallon. My last fill was $2.69 a gallon. Was .99 cents a gallon 4 years ago when I moved here.

Hilltopdaisy,
Don't we pay more for everything here in NY? I am getting quite fed up w/it. Can't wait for school taxes next month!

I thought our pre-pay rate was criminal.....

until I saw yours I paid 1.75 pre-pay in Far Northern Wisconsin (20 miles more and I would be in the lake). When will these gas companies have pity on us poor souls?

I just wrote the check last night to pay for filling up both tanks and it was $1.79 per gallon, the pre-paid price for this company. Hopefully, that will do me for the year. The NY/NE prices are staggering...and you guys need a lot more of it than I do!

Just had 215 gallons delivered today @ $1.6990. Had a pre-pay credit of $164.24, so the total bill wasn't too bad. This should last me another year, as I heat mainly with wood. The propane is for the hot water heater & the stove. I guess I'd better start socking $$ away for next year. Who KNOWS what it will cost?

I know what you mean. For several months I was looking for a good deal on a 500 gallon tank to go with the one I already have, thinking that would do me for the year. But, if propane goes to $4 per gallon, it would have taken $3,200 to fill up both of tanks (to 80%). I bought a 250 gallon tank instead, and I'm trying to cut back. In the Summer months, I'm keeping the water heater thermostat set on vacation and it has really helped. Using only hot water in the shower and sink, it's more than warm enough and the dishwasher has a pre-heater setting which gets the water hot enough for that. I use only cold water in the clothes washer. God willing and I retire next year, I'll burn wood almost exclusively for heat, and that should really help.

It's not just New York.

Last year, propane got up to $2.25 a gallon before winter was through. Not looking forward to this winter's bill. I have a 300 gallon tank and we go through it about every six to eight weeks.

Its not just New York. Its 2.89 a gallon here in Vermont, and 3.39 in Massachusetts.

The prices the rest of you are quoting, make me angry that its so much here!

Checking on prices for my dad on Friday. New house, 1000 gallon underground tank. I was told market price (Ohio) was $1.89. Some were quoting that as current price with a two year contract. Best deal was fill now at $1.54, sign up for lock in ($10) and price capped at $1.89 until March '07. Never pay more, but if the market price is less, will pay the lesser amount. No contract. But remember this is for 600 gallons or more.
