LOL I've seen the car requests.

But, believe it or not, a few weeks ago someone actually did offer a running car that they said needed work, but it really was running. Non-running cars have also been offered frequently.

And, a couple weeks ago, someone offered a mobile home. It was in liveable condition. Wish I'd had a way to move it, I would have responded.

I see appliances offered ALL the time. Someone gets a new fridge, stove, washer, whatever. They give the old one away.

I also see a LOT of trees offered. You can go cut them down for firewood. Saves the owners the expense of having them removed by a professional service.

Our freecycle groups here are heavily moderated. That keeps the moochers in line and makes the experience pleasant for everyone.

Thank you, will do.

The freecycle forum I joined, you can offer all you want, but only want 1 time a month. I wish it was 1 offer, 1 want. Oh well.

Okay going to check out Dept of Agriculture. Be back soon. This is interesting topic for me.

My freecycle is moderated quite well, but, boy! does everyone WANT on there. I've gotten rid of a few things that aren't a lot of good but might get someone though in a pinch until they can get better, like a vacuum cleaner that didn't have great suction. I like it for getting rid of excess roosters and chicks, too. Generally someone wants them.

Yes, Cindy in NY, this is correct and it's posted in our Freecycle rules but the moderator seems to be dropping the ball, so to speak. Still - I've unloaded some useful things to others and have received good items, too.

I belong to one out here in MO, they don't allow free animals to be posted on it, but they do have a chat board where you can post them, They also have a few really good rules, like after you join, you can't post for something like 5 days until your accepted, they do not allow any types of advertisments, and the moderator is pretty strict on how the ads are worded, to where in the title you even have to post your zip code and such. I've been freecycling for about 2 years now.

I've given and received numerous things, but I've had a way worse "no show" ratio with freecycle over giving away stuff on craigslist.

As for the 5 gallon buckets -- head to your grocery stores bakery department and ask them for their buckets that the frosting comes in. I have received more buckets with removeable lids that I will ever need, but they are so handy and food storage grade plastic buckets with lids will always come in handy.

Someone just posted a car on one of my local freecycles a few minutes ago (another one!). A 1990 nissan sentra, non-running. But if someone is handy with cars, it could be a God-send for somebody.

I not only freecycle, I also use craigslist, sell and trade here on the barter board, and belong to two other yahoo groups in my area that allow buying/selling/trading.

I belong to a couple freecycle groups, but they are several miles away from me, non local.

I keep check on one in St Louis as we go up there quite offten, but have never been fast enough to get anything.

Talking about cars, we went to a scrap metal place to sell some metal a few weeks ago and were having to stay in line for a bit. I was watching these people who were in front of us pulling a small grand am car. It was a nice looking car. I saw one of the scrap metal workers go look look under it and talk to them. He came walking back by us and I said what are they doing getting rid of their car. He said yeah. I said well it looks fairly nice. He said it isn't bad, that he had already gotten one car that day. Someone had drug it in cause it had quit on the road with him. The worker said I just said I'll take it, and he had rolled it out across the street. He said there can't be much wrong with it. I saw it on the way out and it was a nice looking car. Anyway while we were still waiting they put their grabber around the little grand am and crushed it and put it in the pile to load out.

I should have asked the worker about how much a car pays out. Any one on here know?

I usually scrap small metal. I don't have the ability to handle big stuff. I've heard $150.00-$200.00 a ton.

I belong to two groups; both of which I'd have to drive a ways. I've never been fast enough to get something but have given away a couple of things. It tickled my heart to see people be so appreciative to get something they can use - and being a pack rat myself, it helps clear more stuff out of here.
