JasoninMN, I think your dog is much prettier than the dead one. I wouldn't want to meet up with him alone though....he's mean looking. He must be a good dog, looks like your goats and chickens are all in one piece.

You say that like it's a bad thing...I would much prefer to live in a place like this than one that merits a homicide count every day on the front page.

But you're right--you probably wouldn't like it here, though our taxes are considerably lower than yours, and that's saying a lot coming from a Mainer...lol.

Ace is half Pitbull/half Chow Chow. His looks are deceiving. He is very friendly, gets along great with kids, livestock and other pets. Basically the poorest watch dog you could ever own...lol He doesn't even bark when a car pulls up. I do NOT reccommend this cross though.

Okay, it's in Maine right?...........I'd say someone should ask Stephen King if his dog is missing.

I think somesing went wong when they bred?
Looks like maybe 3 breeds mixed, and maybe a 3 rd generation animal.
Scary, though if there are more out there.

isn't there a little black dog in new england that if you see it 3 times you die?
maybe it finally back fired on the little black dog?
anyway, to me it looks chow and it doesn't look 50lbs, to me it looks like a 10 week old pup.

The angle of the face shot makes it look really strange but the whole body picture just looks like a dog, chow mix. It doesn't look that big to me next to the leaves. Wolves are bigger I would think.

I like cryptozoology, remember the mystery creature from NC?

They decided it was a rare "abnormal" fox.

hmmm

I bet chow cross...look closely at the head shot..looks like a black tounge hanging out behind a lite screen of grass...chows do come in black and do have short faces and are reported to be a "mean" breed with very high incidince of people bites( I think I heard # 1???)...just another point in favor of "spay/neuter" IMHO.

that is unclear from the way the article was written. i thought it meant the dna sample that pointed to wolf hybrid was from the animal killed by a hunter in maine years earlier.

I vote for a BLUE chow of poor breeding quality.

It looks similar to these dogs

But with an even thinner coat.

Michelle O'Donnell of Turner spotted the animal near her yard about a week before it was killed. She called it a "hybrid mutant of something."

"It was evil, evil looking. And it had a horrible stench I will never forget," she told the Sun Journal of Lewiston. "We locked eyes for a few seconds and then it took off. I've lived in Maine my whole life and I've never seen anything like it."

For the past 15 years, residents across Androscoggin County have reported seeing and hearing a mysterious animal with chilling monstrous cries and eyes that glow in the night
