Beautiful birds, QBVII and mtmn thanks for sharing
Fla Gal - thanks for the Rose of Sharon question. We had gotten 7-8 plants as a special once, and I managed to misplace the listing of what was which, when the were first planted - they were just twigs with a touch of different colored paint on them. Now I know which one is the Rose of Sharon

Mrs got us six chickens(hens I hope) and they are just the funniest animals on the planet, and real sweethearts too.
Cracks me up how they just march into the coop at night, happy little soldiers.
Boy chickens are great animals.

I've had only one RIR rooster and he was one of the first three chicks I'd owned. He was shiny and beautiful. Had a crow the neighbors could hear for blocks and blocks. Since we were so close to the city I had to find him a country home. The people that adopted him were really pleased with getting such a good looking rooster for nothing. We were happy to find him a good home because he was such a handsome gentle rooster.
He was just under breeding age so I don't know if he'd have gotten mean. He was hand raised and really a nice docile bird. He didn't want to be held but he would eat out of my hand. The other two chicks were pullets (Crashy and Kimmy) and I never had a problem with him. Probably because he hadn't started mating with the gals yet. I don't know.
On the other hand, I had a white Americauna rooster that was mean. He started trying to put the other chicks, his age, in line when he was the tender age of two months. Fast forward two months, he didn't know the rooster dance and kept after the pullets young and old unmercifully. When he tried mating with Crashy she got him off of her real quick and I knew if he had he done the dance she would have squatted for him. She's been laying and squating for months. After he did this I put him in the small chicken tractor to fatten him up. It wasn't even two weeks after that, I went to feed him he attacked my hand and drew blood. He was resting in the fridge the next day.

Those pictures are beautiful. The one with the barn and the rooster in front near Rose of Sharon. And the one with the rooster crowing. They should be enlarged and framed and hung in your homes.
You should consider entering the photos (and roosters, too) in your county fairs.
Thanks for sending them our way.

Here's my New Hampshire Red - I think he's handsome too!
Looks a lot like the RIR?

Same here. We got rid of two hens that jumped up and scratched my DD's noses. Funniest thing, we brought them down the street to our councilman. Being from Louisiana, old Huey P. Long used to say a "Chicken in every pot", meaning the government would take care of everyone.
Nice rooster, though. They sure are cool-looking marching around in all of their glory.......You too MTMAN. Cool birds.
